Outgoing Ohio Gov. John Kasich said on Sunday his 'very seriously' considering a challenge to President Donald Trump in 2020.
'Very seriously,' he said on ABC's 'This Week.' 'These are earnest conversations that go on virtually every day with some of my friends, with my family.'
Kasich added: 'We need different leadership, there isn't any question about it. And I'm not only just worried about the tone and the name calling and the division in our country and the partisanship, but I also worry about the policies.'
He visited the early primary state of New Hampshire earlier this month and said his traveling is his way of weighing his options when it comes to facing a sitting president.

'I'm worried about our country and not just in the short term, but I'm worried about our country in the long term. So the question for me is what – what do I do about this?' Kasich said.
'Do I run because I've determined that I can win or is it important for me to make such a good showing that I can send a message that can disrupt the political system in this country?,' he added.
'So yes, I have to think about it, I think about it seriously. As you know, I still travel, I make, you know, I'm out there trying to do what I can do. I don't know when I will have to make a decision, but let's be clear, I'm not being coy, I'm not trying to do this for kind of a game. This is really, really serious to me.'
It's difficult to challenge a sitting president for the nomination. Ronald Reagan tried - and failed - against President Gerald Ford in 1976. Reagan went on to win the GOP nomination and the White House in 1980.
Kasich, 66, unsuccessfully ran for president in 2000 and 2016. He is term-limited out of office in his home state of Ohio.
Kasich lost to Trump in 2016, but ran a campaign touting an optimistic message of hope and being above the fray, refusing to lobby shots at his rivals.
He came in second in New Hampshire to Trump's first place but his campaign never caught fire and his only won his home state of Ohio in the primary campaign.
He claimed the Trump campaign offered him the vice presidency, which they denied.
Kasich, in the past, has weighed a third-party challenge to the president, an idea he did not dismiss on Sunday.
'Let's just say that Donald Trump is nominated and Elizabeth Warren is nominated, and you have this ocean of people who sit in the middle. Is there a legitimate opportunity for a third party,' he said, referring to the possibility the progressive senator from Massachusetts may run for the Democratic nomination in 2020.
Kasich said he did not have a time table on making a decision.
'I don't know where this is all going to lead,' he said.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
