Libby Purves has accused the BBC of ‘needy self-congratulation’ and said it acclaims its own shows as if they were a football cup final.

The broadcaster and author blasted the ‘braggart’ corporation for its obsessive promotion of its own programmes, calling it ‘naff’.

She claimed the BBC’s ‘coverage of its own navel’ has increased tenfold in the last few years, and that executives think ‘the world revolves around Broadcasting House’.

‘A new Doctor Who is greeted like a Nobel Prize announcement,’ she wrote in Radio Times.

‘Strictly is like a cup final and a bit of forgettable fiction like the Bodyguard sparks chin-stroking discussion on [Radio 4’s] Today, for all the world as if something in the real world had happened.’

Miss Purves, 68, said even Radio 4 was guilty of endlessly trailing its shows.

The presenter said she noticed the trend after Top Gear star Richard Hammond crashed in 2006.

She wrote: ‘Seven minutes of the evening news was devoted to Richard Hammond getting over his crash.’

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
