«Breaking News» American tourist is stabbed to death in Mexican tourist hot spot after a robbery went wrong

A man from California has been stabbed to death in a park at a Mexican beach resort.

The body of 27-year-old Taylor Kristopher Meyer was found on Friday at the Lázaro Cárdenas park in Playa del Carmen.  

Meyer, from Hermosa Beach, Los Angeles, had arrived at the popular beach vacation spot with a group of friends, including some members of his fraternity when he was the apparent victim of a robbery gone wrong.

Meyer's parents were contacted by the US Consulate to inform them of their son's death and that he had been killed in a robbery. 

His cousin, Tracy Goetz, told KCRG that authorities have given few details about what led to Meyer's death.

'This was a random act of violence,' she told the television station. 'They stole his shoes and his wallet.'

Local police arrested a man on Monday for his alleged participation in the stabbing. 

An unidentified source says the deceased is Taylor Kristopher Meyer, 27, from LA who was out celebrating a friend's birthday when he was stabbed. Police have not confirmed the info

Meyer had flown to the resort town for his friend's thirtieth birthday party

Three people were reported to be in the park with Meyer at the time of the robbery according to Riviera Maya News.

'They don't want people to know that there are murders happening like this because then people are not going to go there,' Goetz told KCRG. 'It needs to be known that it's not a safe place to go. It's not okay to go and the Mexican officials need to fess up to it.'

Meyer's parents are also concerned that local authorities will claim the murder was 'tourist on tourist' crime and not one committed by locals.

'We're afraid of this cover-up and we're never going to find the true story about all these unanswered questions,' Meyer's father, Kris, told FOX31.

'We don't want this to happen to another family,' his father said.

Meyer's family is hoping the FBI can look at the case, and are planning his funeral for Saturday in California, where he was living prior to his death.

Meyer was attacked around 3am while he was out with the group of about 14 people

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family pay for funeral expenses which has so far managed to raise $2,000.  

In August, the State Department issued an update to its Mexico travel advisory, urging tourists to 'exercise increased caution' when visiting the country.

The update came after authorities confirmed the discovery of eight bodies outside the resort areas of Cancun. 

The State Department says the area 'experienced an increase in homicide rates compared to the same period in 2016.'

'While most of these homicides appeared to be targeted, criminal organization assassinations, turf battles between criminal groups have resulted in violent crime in areas frequented by U.S. citizens,' the advisory notes. 'Shooting incidents injuring or killing bystanders have occurred.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
