«Breaking News» Amazon is investigated by German antitrust agency

Germany's antitrust agency is investigating Amazon for preventing fair competition in the country's online marketplace.

Officials said they have begun an investigation of the retailer giant over complaints that it's abusing its market position to the detriment of merchants using its platform.

The Federal Cartel Office, or Bundeskartellamt said in a statement that they have received 'many complaints' over the treatment of third party sellers.

The bureau added a list of Amazon's practices that may be considered abusive and is investigating.

These include withholding payments, blocking seller accounts without explanation, and use of sellers' information.

The office said it would also closely examine whether Amazon's position is hindering these sellers and if they have become dependent on Amazon to make sales.

'Amazon's 'double role as the largest retailer and largest marketplace has the potential to hinder other sellers on its platform,' said agency head Andreas Mundt.

'We will scrutinize its terms of business and practices toward sellers.'

A separate investigation into Amazon's use of data is already underway by the European Union's Competition Commission

Officials say they will focus strictly on terms of business and practices toward sellers on its German Amazon marketplace, the office said.

'Amazon acts as a kind of ''gatekeeper'' to customers,' said cartel office President Andreas Mundt.

'The double role as biggest trader and biggest marketplace means there is a potential to impede other traders on the platform.'

Amazon said it could not comment on ongoing proceedings.

However, they said they will 'cooperate fully' with the Bundeskartellamt and 'continue working hard to support small and medium-sized businesses and help them grow'.

Germany is Amazon's second biggest market. It has faced a long-running battle with unions in the country over pay and conditions for logistics workers.

The German watchdog is also investigating Facebook after claims that the social media giant abused its market dominance to gather data on people without their consent.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
