«Breaking News» Trump DELAYS $200 billion tariff increase to stop China trade war

President Donald Trump on Sunday delayed an upcoming tariff increase to stop a billion dollar trade war escalation with China and said he and Chinese President Xi Jinping would hold a summit at Mar-a-Lago to conclude an agreement between the two economic super powers.

Trump announced his decision in a pair of tweets Sunday after negotiations between Chinese and U.S. officials continued throughout the weekend to come to an agreement ahead of the March 1 deadline.

'I am pleased to report that the U.S. has made substantial progress in our trade talks with China on important structural issues including intellectual property protection, technology transfer, agriculture, services, currency, and many other issues. As a result of these very......,' Trump wrote.

He added: '....productive talks, I will be delaying the U.S. increase in tariffs now scheduled for March 1. Assuming both sides make additional progress, we will be planning a Summit for President Xi and myself, at Mar-a-Lago, to conclude an agreement. A very good weekend for U.S. & China!'

Trump has threatened to escalate the trade war between the two countries by raising the 10 percent tariffs he's placed on $200 billion of Chinese goods to 25 percent if a deal wasn't reached by March 1.

But he said said on Friday there was 'a very good chance' the United States would strike a deal with China to end their trade war and that he was inclined to extend his March 1 deadline to reach an agreement.

U.S. and Chinese negotiators had made progress and would continued last week's round of negotiations through the weekend.

Trump met his top negotiators and their counterpart, Chinese Vice Premier Liu He, at the White House on Friday.

'I think that we both feel there's a very good chance a deal will happen,' Trump said.

Extending the deadline would mean Trump would put on hold a scheduled tariff increase to 25 percent from 10 percent on $200 billion of Chinese imports into the United States.

That would prevent a further escalation in a trade war that has already disrupted commerce in goods worth hundreds of billions of dollars, slowed global economic growth and roiled markets.

Trump and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the two sides had reached an agreement on currency. Trump declined to provide details, but U.S. officials have long expressed concerns that China's yuan is undervalued, giving China a trade advantage and partly offsetting U.S. tariffs.

The president said he would probably meet China's President Xi Jinping in March in Florida, and the biggest decisions on the terms of the trade deal could come when they meet.

Xi sent a letter to Trump which an aide to Liu read out at the briefing on Friday. Xi called on negotiators to work hard to strike a deal that benefits both.

Trump indicated a deal with China may extend beyond trade to encompass Chinese telecommunications companies Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corp .

The Justice Department has accused Huawei of conspiring to violate U.S. sanctions on Iran and of stealing robotic technology from T-Mobile US Inc.

Chinese peer ZTE was last year prevented from buying essential components from U.S. firms after pleading guilty to similar charges, crippling its operations.

Trump has demanded that China and other top trade partners take action to balance trade with the United States.

China has pledged to increase purchases of agricultural produce, energy, semiconductors and industrial goods to reduce its trade surplus.

China committed to buying an additional 10 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans on Friday, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said on Twitter.

The commitments are a 'show of good faith by the Chinese' and 'indications of more good news to come,' Perdue wrote.

China was the top buyer of U.S. soybeans before the trade war, but Beijing's retaliatory tariffs on U.S. soybeans slashed business that had been worth $12 billion annually.

The president has used Mar-a-Lago as a diplomatic meeting ground before and he hosted Xi there in 2017, although his breach in protocol was said to frustrate the Chinese.

When Xi visited Mar-a-Lago in April 2017, Trump upended weeks of international negotiations by asking for an immediate one-on-one meeting with the Chinese president.

'Got a minute?' he reportedly asked Xi and took him for a walk across the grounds, much to the frustration of the Chinese delegation, who were unhappy with change in the carefully choreographed plans.

Trump also hosted Prime Minister Shinzō Abe of Japan there in February of 2017. The two leaders fit in a round of golf after their talks.

Trump and Xi agreed to a 90-day truce in the trade war at their December meeting at the G20 in Argentina and negotiators have been in talks since that time.

If Trump does implement his threatened increase on Chinese goods, Beijing could retaliate on American goods and that could result in the president going through with his threat to add tariffs on at least an additional $267 billion of Chinese products.

Thus far most Americans haven't felt the effects of the trade war as staples such as food and clothes have not been affected.

The U.S.-China trade hostilities increased after Trump entered the White House, weakening both economies, shaking financial markets and clouding the outlook for global trade.

Analysts have held out little hope the two countries can reach a comprehensive deal over the next month.

At the heart of the conflict is the U.S. demand that Beijing stop taking predatory actions - from intellectual theft to the forced handover of technology by U.S. companies - in a drive to become a global power in such fields as robotics and electric cars. The Trump administration also complains that Beijing unfairly subsidizes its own tech companies.

China has denied that it deploys any such tactics.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
