Quality Street fans will have noticed there are fewer green and purple sweets in their festive tins.
Now, Nestle has admitted Hazelnut Triangles and Hazelnut in Caramel Chocolate are limited because they have a higher calorie content - and the overall nutritional value of the boxes, tubs and tins is kept at a recommended figure.
Speaking to Femail, a spokesman explained each sweet is divided into one of three categories - fruit cremes, chocolates, and toffees and fudge - and each Quality Street product contains one third of each.
The purple and green favourites are two of the five 'mainly chocolate-based sweets', contain more sugar and fat, and have a higher calorie count than the others - so there are fewer of these in the boxes.
The spokesman also revealed the tins, tubs and boxes will contain more Strawberry Delight sweets, as they are only one of two fruit cremes.
The 'cost, weight and nutrition' are taken into consideration to make sure the content of the products don't vary.
Chocolate giant Nestle has admitted there are fewer green Hazelnut Triangles and purple Hazelnut in Caramel chocolates (seen centre) in their products, as they have to keep the nutritional value of the box at the recommended figure
The spokesman said: 'The Quality Street assortment is made of up of three different types of sweet; fruit cremes, chocolates and toffees & fudge. Each tub is broadly split into thirds along these lines which is why you will get more sweets like the Strawberry Delight which is one of only two fruit cremes and fewer of The Purple One or Green Triangle which are just two of the five, mainly chocolate based sweets.
'We do take the popularity of individual sweets into account and have increased the number of people's favourites in this year's assortment. Our research shows that the Caramel Swirl is the sweet with the broadest appeal but other studies point to The Purple One or the Strawberry Delight as being more popular. Part of the fun of Christmas is the family discussion about each of our favourites and who gets the last sweet.
'Other factors we have to consider during the process are keeping the weight, nutritional value and cost of each tub steady so that the on-pack labelling and RRP is accurate and consistent.'
Explaining that they are two of the 'mainly chocolate-based sweets', a spokesperson for the manufacturer revealed that they were among the nation's favourite Quality Street sweets, but that their calories were higher than the others
According to Nestle there are 367 calories per serving of Quality Street chocolates, with one serving equaling two sweets.
However for those keen to get more of the green and purple sweets, John Lewis has found a way to ensure every treat will be eaten.
Shoppers will be able to create their own bespoke tins at pix and mix stations in selected UK stores from late September until December 23.
Customers will be able to choose only their favourite chocolates to fill up a 1.2kg tin, which means if you want a tub full of The Purple Ones and no Strawberry Delights, you can have it for £12.
The only catch is that the tin has to include at least four different flavours - so you can't choose a tin that only contains Green Triangles for example.
The pick and mix tins are more expensive than normal, as they are priced at £12, compared to £7.50 for a normal mixed tin.
A Nestle spokesperson added: 'This year we have partnered with John Lewis to bring Quality Street pick and mix to eleven stores around the country. Individual shoppers can choose their own mix with more of their favourites. We also have a Purely Purple One and Simply Strawberry Delights product with giant versions of each sweet filled with only that variety.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
