«Breaking News» The raciest fashion trend of 2018 and how to rock it

High fashion is never for the faint of heart, but even the most daring were taken aback by the surprise sartorial hit of 2018.

PVC, a synthetic fabric previously reserved for outdoor hiking, shopping bags and less than salubrious gentleman's clubs, stormed its way onto the runway and into our hearts to become one of Australia's hottest trends over the past 12 months.

Seen in various incarnations from full length plastic trench coats to Perspex hats on the likes of Bella Hadid, Sahara Ray and the Kardashians, there are many ways to incorporate this daring '90s style into your daily ensemble.

FEMAIL looked at the resurgence of PVC and how you can wear the raciest trend of the year.

Chanel's Spring 2018 runway was one of the first major endorsements of PVC among the high fashion set, with a plethora of vinyl shoes, wide-brimmed hats and clear bags taking centre stage.

Miu Miu, Burberry and Calvin Klein all followed suit with their respective takes on translucent coats and outerwear accessories.

Earlier this year, Pop Sugar recommended diluting the boldness of PVC by starting with a 'sleek boot or see-through clutch' to gradually ease the impactful material into your look.

The Independent echoed this advice, revealing the secret to pulling off the tricky look involves wearing just one piece of PVC at a time.

Translucent PVC coats and full length skirts were seen everywhere this season on the likes of Bella Hadid (left, at the Off White show during Paris Fashion Week) and Australian style blogger Nadia Fairfax (right, at the launch of the Fendi flagship store in Melbourne)

Black PVC pants are one of the most popular takes on the trend, with a growing number of street style influencers swapping leather and denim skinnies for shinier counterparts.

Australian fashion label I AM GIA is a well known retailer of form fitting PVC bottoms, beloved by Emily Ratajkowski, Kourtney Kardashian and Kylie Jenner.

The billionaire business mogul recently took her love affair with the unusual textile to the next level by sporting a bubblegum pink PVC mini dress at a celebration lunch for the launch of her newest Kylie Cosmetics collaboration with best friend Jordyn Woods.

Woods wore a matching body conscious number in a mocha shade of brown to accentuate her incredible curves, while Italian influencer and fashion CEO Chiara Ferragni rocked the same figure hugging latex dress in lime green and nude in the past two months.

The pair are well known for their fondness of high-waisted PVC pants and co-ordinating crop tops in various statement colour ways.

For a more demure alternative, Maison Margiela toned down the style by layering a thin sheet of PVC over floral below-the-knee skirts.

Stepping out in a vinyl ensemble may feel intimidating, which is why it's always a fail-safe idea to pair a subtle black skirt with a tucked in top of a contrasting texture.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
