«Breaking News» Hamilton prepared to return winning favour to Bottas

Lewis Hamilton has told Valtteri Bottas that he will return the winning favour when he has secured his fifth world championship.

Hamilton will take part in the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday, the first of five remaining races, with a 50-point lead over Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel after Mercedes used team orders in Russia.

Bottas was instructed to move aside for team-mate Hamilton who won in Sochi to take the title race out of Vettel’s hands. Indeed, Hamilton can now afford to finish second at all of the concluding rounds and still be crowned champion.

Asked if he would return the compliment to Bottas if, as is now expected, he wraps up the title with races to spare, Hamilton said: “I’d have no problems with that.

“Last season, Valtteri won quite a few races, and he has the possibility of winning more by himself.”

Hamilton, 33, was back in the UK on Monday, posting a motivational Instagram message to his 7.5million followers, before heading to Mercedes’ headquarters in Brackley, Northamptonshire.

He will then travel to the Far East on Tuesday to prepare for a race he has won in three of the past four years.

On the evidence of their dominant performance in Sochi, Mercedes have seemingly taken a step ahead of Ferrari.

Not only is Hamilton closing in on the drivers’ championship, but Mercedes are now firm favourites to become only the second team in history to win five consecutive constructors’ championships, too. Ferrari won six on the bounce at the turn of the century.

The Silver Arrows are 53 points clear of their Italian rivals, but a typically-cautious Toto Wolff insisted his team’s display in Sochi may not be par for the course.

“You can go to the next race in Suzuka, and the one after that in Austin and have a disastrous weekend,” the Mercedes team principal said. “I have seen freak results in motor racing.

“This season we have seen that it comes in waves, so you cannot take our Russia performance for granted and say this is what we expect to go on for the remainder of the season.”

Wolff will also be tasked with ensuring Bottas’ confidence is not dented as Mercedes go about closing out the constructors’ title.

“Valtteri is such an intelligent guy and understands how the team dynamic goes,” Wolff added.

“What we discussed was if he were in Lewis’ situation, would he expect the team to work for him? And the answer is clearly yes.

“But in his heart, my heart, and Lewis’ heart it didn’t feel right that he didn’t win the race because he was the guy in the lead.”

Bottas, who signed a one-year extension in July to stay with Mercedes next season, added: “I am prepared to play for the team. I took one for the team today, I will take one for the team tomorrow.

“That’s how it goes, but I am also looking forward to next year and starting a new season.”

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
