Donald Trump is being ridiculed for reminding Americans to 'Hold the date!' for a Fourth of July government-held celebration.
'HOLD THE DATE! We will be having one of the biggest gatherings in the history of Washington, D.C., on July 4th,' the commander-in-chief tweeted on Sunday morning.
'It will be called "A Salute To America" and will be held at the Lincoln Memorial. Major fireworks display, entertainment and an address by your favorite President, me!'
People took to social media in droves, mocking Trump for making it sound like he invented the concept of patriotic celebrations on July 4th and proclaiming himself to be America's favorite president.

People took to social media in droves, mocking Trump for making it sound like he invented the concept of patriotic celebrations on July 4th and proclaiming himself to be America's favorite president
'At 72 years of age and 2 years into his presidency, Donald Trump finds about July 4th celebrations. Immediately takes credit and makes it all about him,' one user tweeted.
Is he ... is he taking credit for inventing the 4th of July? another asked.
'Trump could say he invented the 4th of July holiday and his followers would believe him,' wrote another.
One user joked: ''an address by your favorite President,' Obama is speaking?'
For decades, the government has organized a fireworks display on the National Mall for July 4th.
It typically includes a concert at the Capitol and a fireworks display launched from near the Washington Monument.
Trump teased the idea of an Independence Day display about two weeks ago.
'We're thinking about doing on the Fourth of July or thereabouts a parade, a 'Salute to America' parade,' the president said at a Cabinet meeting.
'It'll be a, really a gathering as opposed to a parade I guess you'd have to say - perhaps at the Lincoln Memorial, we're looking at sites.
'But we're thinking about doing something which would become perhaps become a tradition, Salute to America, on July 4th or July 4th weekend somewhere around that area.'
Trump did not specifically call the parade or meeting a military display - a concept which helped lead to the postponement of a grand plan brandish the nation's military might and honor servicemen and women.

Trump's earlier push for a Veteran's Day parade came after witnessing the Bastille Day parade in Paris in 2017.
He had said the parade could perhaps be located at the Lincoln Memorial and that it would 'become a tradition' and 'an exciting day'.
The parade was to be complete with armored vehicles, marching troops and fighter jets flying over the route.
The idea was met resistance from within the military, as well as from DC officials who feared heavy military equipment could damage DC roads.
Trump said at the time the parade would be 'great for the spirit of the country'.
The idea got nixed after leaked reports of Pentagon estimates that it could cost as much as $92 million, while the nation still had thousands of troops stationed in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Trump said the parade could be held near the Lincoln Memorial (pictured) as will be the new 'A Salute To America' Fourth of July celebration
Former Secretary of Defense James Mattis, who resigned his post in protest citing disagreements with Trump, said whomever came up with that estimate was 'probably smoking something'.
Trump tweeted about the parade last August, apparently without consulting Mattis. 'I missed having had a chance to review anything,' Mattis told reporters at the time.
The Lincoln Memorial is perhaps most famous for the August 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
Historians estimated that around 250,000 people filled the National Mall as Martin Luther King Jr stood on the Lincoln Memorial steps and delivered his famous 'I Have a Dream' speech.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
