«Breaking News» Tom Brady rookie card makes auction history with $400,000 winning bid the highest in history

An extremely rare autographed rookie football card of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady sold for $400,100 in an online auction Monday night.

The 2000 playoff contenders championship rookie ticket card was just one of 100 produced and was in mint condition, having received a rating of 9 by Beckett Grading.

The price set a record for a football card, which isn't surprising given the fact that Brady set an NFL record by winning his sixth Super Bowl earlier this month.

'This sale was record-setting but also largely predicted,' PWCC Marketplace CEO Brett Huigens said in a statement. 'The trading card market is rapidly maturing among tangible asset investors and record prices are becoming increasingly frequent, especially among the market's most desired issues.'

Only 100 were ever made and only two of those, one being the 41/100 card at auction, have been given a grade nine 'mint condition' rating.

The auction, run by PWCC Marketplace, confirmed that the successful bid made the sealed card the most expensive officially sold.

'This sale was record-setting but also largely predicted,' Huigens told ESPN.

'This auction event featured the finest football card we've brokered in our 20-year history and achieved the highest-ever hammer price for a football card.

'We were honored to present this asset to the public and are delighted for the new owner.'

The card has been praised for its perfect condition due to the rarity of a nine-grade score on the Beckett Grading Service.

Private sales of the same card in lower grades are believed to have sold at retail for over $250,000, according to PWCC.

The giant price tag comes weeks after Brady, 41, won his sixth Super Bowl.

A former sixth-round pick who spent a year as Drew Bledsoe's backup, Brady passed for 4,355 yards in the 2018-19 season, bringing his career total to 70,500 yards. He has also scored 517 touchdowns in his 19-year career with the Patriots.

Brady has been awarded the NFL's Most Valuable Player award three times.

While the Brady card now holds the record auction price for a football card, it pales in comparison to many collectibles from baseball history.

In 2018, a 1952 Micky Mantle card sold for $2.88 million in April 2018, according to Sports Illustrated.

The card was one of over 15,000 cards, lots, and sets up for auction in WPCC Marketplace's second auction round of 2019.

The world famous card of former Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Honus Wagner has sold for as much as $3.12 million.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
