«Breaking News» Snowplow strikes car buried in snow and police find woman inside

A snowplow clearing the streets of South Lake Tahoe, California, after a recent winter storm struck a car that was completely buried under a mound of snow, saving a woman trapped inside.

The 48-year-old occupant of the vehicle, believed to be homeless, was alive and well and had spent between four and five hours trapped in the car, according to city spokesman Chris Fiore.

The incident took place on February 17 following a major multi-day snowstorm that dumped several feet of the white stuff in and around South Lake Tahoe.

The spokesman told the Reno Gazette-Journal the plow operator and police officers who arrived on the scene on Cedar Avenue to help dig out the illegally parked car had no idea there was anyone inside until they saw a hand pressed against the window.

The woman, who police say was living in her car, told them she had been stranded for four or five hours.

She had no cell phone to call for help, reported KOLO-TV. She also could not open the windows and her car battery was dead.

‘With that much snow piled on top of the car ... if the snowplow hadn't hit the back of it we could be having a much different conversation,’ Fiore said. ‘She could have suffocated.’

South Lake Tahoe Police Department Lt. Shannon Laney said in his 20 years on the force, he had never before come across a person stuck in a completely snowed-in car.

‘It's a first for me, but we also haven't had storms that dump this much (snow) this fast either ... it's a unique winter for us,’ Laney said.

Heavy snow continued falling in the area around Lake Tahoe Wednesday, with the National Weather Service predicting up to 4 feet of snow in the mountains, that on top of the 12 inches that accumulated on the ground on Monday.

At many ski resorts in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, February snow records were shattered thanks to a series of storms that have pummeled the area over the past two weeks.

Squaw Valley Ski Resort tweeted on Tuesday that this month is officially the snowiest on record, bringing the month's total to 286 inches. An additional 20 inches fell in the area between Tuesday and Wednesday.

So far this season, the resort has been buried under 45 feet of the white stuff, and counting.

In the Sierra along the California-Nevada line, a winter storm warning remained in effect for the Lake Tahoe area until 4am Thursday. The forecast calls for winds gusting in excess of 140 mph over ridgetops.

'Periods of white-out conditions are likely,' the National Weather Service in Reno said. 'Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage.'

National Weather Service in Sacramento said up to 80 inches of snow was expected in the Sierra through Wednesday above 4,500 feet in elevation.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
