«Breaking News» Oscar Queens: Olivia Colman and Helen Mirren shared the fashion crown

She may love to push the boundaries when it comes to style. But not when it comes to the Oscars.

Swishing down the red carpet in frothy pink tulle, Helen Mirren — who won her own Oscar in 2007 for her role as Queen Elizabeth in The Queen — oozed old-fashioned Hollywood glamour.

Her showstopping number in shocking pink boasted armfuls of tulle, and was made by French fashion house Schiaparelli. Fittingly, way back in the Fifties, the brand’s feisty Italian founder, Elsa Schiaparelli, designed the wardrobes for countless Hollywood films. Leading ladies such as man-eater Mae West relied on Schiaparelli to manage the balance of outright sexiness and femininity.

Maison Schiaparelli closed in 1954. But it has gone from strength to strength since it was revived in 2012 by Diego Della Valle, CEO of luxury leather goods company, Tod’s. Helen’s dress — estimated to be worth a cool £90,000 — was created by the brand’s design director, Bertrand Guyon.

The plunging neckline was offset by long sleeves and the full-pleated skirt was cinched at the waist with a fabric belt.

Helen, 73, added a quirky pink Tyler Ellis clutch bag — estimated to be worth £3,000 — and her trademark towering platform heels in Perspex.

And, if there was an award for Best Bling, she would have been a shoo-in, shimmering in 237 carats of diamonds — worth a jawdropping £4.59 million.

Helen’s Harry Winston set comprised the 22-carat Winston Cluster diamond earrings, the 136-carat Winston Cluster diamond necklace and the 79-carat Winston Cluster bracelet.

‘They’re worth $6 million (£4.59 million)! That’s more than a house,’ she confided to the Mail’s Baz Bambigoye.

Make that an entire street!

Olivia Colman never dreamed she would win an Oscar. But she promised herself that, if she ever made it big, she would treat herself to a Prada gown.

So when the design house offered to create her Oscars dress, it seemed heaven sent. ‘It felt like the stars had aligned,’ says her British stylist, Mary Fellowes — niece of Lady Jane Fellowes, Princess Diana’s sister.

‘The Prada team are so bloody lovely. It’s like getting ready for your wedding,’ says mother-of-three Olivia, 45. ‘And Mary knows what I hate about myself and want to hide.’

For her part, Mary told the New York Times: ‘Olivia has a real woman’s body. She’s a strong woman, a working mother and an independent thinker. These have always been major considerations when we are thinking about how she should dress.

The two women came up with ideas for the Oscars gown as they sat in a car en route to the Palm Springs Film Festival in January.

The A-line turtleneck creation was fashioned from emerald green silk and worn under a smoky grey silk organza cape that was gathered into a giant bow at the back and cascaded into a train covered in Swarovski crystals.

A team of eight worked on the dress for 1,209 hours. The embroidery alone took more than 300 hours’ labour.

And as a cheeky nod to her forthcoming role as another queen — Queen Elizabeth in Netflix series The Crown — Olivia asked Prada to weave a subtle version of the Royal Garter onto her bag.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
