A lawyer who investigated harassment claims against Sir Philip Green was bullied by the tycoon herself, a court heard yesterday.

Deborah Cooper, an in-house solicitor for the billionaire’s Arcadia Group, is said to have quit the company because of his behaviour.

The claims emerged at the High Court as Sir Philip’s court wrangle continues over allegations brought by ex-staff. The Topshop boss, 66, brought an injunction against The Daily Telegraph in a bid to maintain gagging orders over sexual harassment, race discrimination and bullying claims made by former employees.

He has now abandoned the action but is still threatening to sue his alleged victims if they speak out.

The five individuals, who cannot be identified, signed controversial non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and accepted money, having complained about sexual harassment, bullying or racism from Sir Philip.

Yesterday Desmond Browne QC, for The Daily Telegraph, argued that the newspaper was still unclear as to why Sir Philip had abruptly stopped his legal action. The paper wants him to be effectively banned from pursuing the former staff members if they speak out.

Mr Browne said: ‘He has escaped cross-examination but is trying to secure exactly the same situation by sending threatening letters.’ The QC also revealed that Sir Philip’s lawyer Mrs Cooper had quit, citing bullying and concerns about the billionaire’s behaviour despite herself presiding over a ‘pantomime’ internal inquiry into him.

Mr Browne said it was unclear ‘what witness statements they [Sir Philip’s legal team] had, and in particular whether they had a statement from solicitor Deborah Cooper, who we say undertook a pantomime grievance procedure and ... had left their employment’. He added: ‘You will remember what [a witness] said about that.

‘She said that Deborah Cooper had raised a grievance not just about being bullied – because if [the witness] is right she had been bullied – but also about Sir Philip’s behaviour during conduct of the [alleged victim’s] grievance procedure.’

James Price QC, for Sir Philip, defended the businessman’s right to pursue alleged victims and demand the repayment of cash payouts if they spoke out in the future.

‘If you break the NDA you give the money back, it is as simple as that,’ he said. An interim injunction remains in place for now. A judgment in the case is expected next week.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
