«Breaking News» Melody Thornton will be the FIRST contestant to attempt the Headbanger on Dancing On Ice

Dancing on Ice star Melody Thornton will become the first contestant of the current series to attempt the hazardous Headbanger move when the show returns on Sunday evening.

The Pussycat Doll has received warm praise for her previous two performances on the ITV show, but will aim to raise the bar by several notches when she enters the rink with professional skate partner Alexander Demetriou.

Earnest rehearsals show the pair choreographing their latest routine, which is expected to end with Alexander spinning Melody from her ankles in dizzying circles around the ice.

Speaking to Sun Online while rehearsing the move, which is banned by the International Skating Union (ISU), Melody admitted she could suffer a fatal injury if it goes wrong.

'I'm just trying not to die... I could crack my head,' she said.

The Headbanger, also referred to as the Bounce Spin, was named as such because the body is propelled high in the air before dipping dangerously close to the ice, making it one of the more complex elements used on the show.

Melody will become the 13th contestant to perform the move, 13-years after it was first attempted by actress Bonnie Langford and her professional skate partner Matt Evers.

In 2007 former Arsenal and England goalkeeper David Seaman - frequently referred to as 'Safe Hands' during an illustrious footballing career -  famously dropped Pam O’Connor while rehearsing the dangerous move one hour before the live show.

The professional skater suffering bruises to her shoulders and a deep cut on her chin that required stitches, rendering them unable to take part in that week's show.

Other stars to attempt the Headbanger include Suzanne Shaw, Hayley Tammadon, Jorgie Porter and Samia Ghadie, who took to the ice with eventual husband Sylvain Longchambon.

Divisive former Emmerdale actress Roxanne Pallet also successfully performed the move with skating partner Dan Whiston while featuring as a contestant on the show in 2010, eight years before her controversial appearance on Celebrity Big Brother.

Melody's preparations come after the singer revealed she is putting her heart and soul into her rehearsals in a bid to maintain her high standards on the ice.

'Every single day I go out and I’m like ‘"Just do this.” If I give it my all then hopefully the results are favourable,' she told MailOnline.

'It’s just hit or miss, you have to keep your emotions in check and stay psychologically focused and not get carried away and say “Oh my God, so and so is in the crowd, they’re going to see me fall on my butt.”

'There’s so many things going into it, but I’ve surprised myself. I guess I haven’t taken my blinders off. But I’m like a race horse and I’m just doing it.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
