«Breaking News» Jeremy Clarkson hits back at Will Young with sarcastic 'apology' over 'homophobic' Jeep segment

Jeremy Clarkson has sarcastically apologised to Will Young after the singer slammed his 'homophobic' Jeep segment with Richard Hammond and James May on The Grand Tour.

The motoring presenter, 58, took to his column in The Sun to address the Leave Right Now hitmaker's, 40, criticism over the scenes.

He quickly accused the singer of going 'berserk' before adding that 'only the Guardian got was he on about' and implied Young should have taken a 'breathalyser' before tweeting.

He rounded off his unusual expression of regret by writing: 'I will apologise to Will for causing him some upset - and reassure him that I know I'm not homophobic as I very much enjoy watching lesbians on the internet.'

Earlier this week, Will slammed the hosts of The Grand Tour, as well as the show's broadcaster Amazon Prime, for a 'homophobic' segment in which a Jeep Wrangler was test-driven.

The three presenters - Jeremy, Richard and James - appear on the current season of the motoring show in the bizarre clip in which they claim driving a Jeep means you should wear 'ventilated chaps', 'moisturise' and play 'It's Raining Men' whilst in the car.

Pop star Young - who is gay - was evidently watching the third episode of the new season when he stumbled across the segment, taking to Twitter to communicate his outrage - even revealing he is planning on taking it to Ofcom and pursuing 'a legal case'.

Speaking out: The motoring presenter, 58, took to his column in The Sun to address the Leave Right Now hitmaker's, 40, backlash in a particularly tongue-in-cheek manner

The former Pop Idol winner, 40, branded the trio of men 'f**king pathetic and actually homophobic' as well as well as 'repulsive' and 'obtuse, bigoted immature babies'.

In a six-tweet rant, Young typed: '1. I love cars always have always will. 2. I loved going on top gear 3. Excited about watching new Top gear and I’m afraid 3 heterosexual men SO uncomfortable with their sexuality that they reference in some lame way a Wrangler Jeep being a Gay mans car

'.... and then Hammond and May’s ‘quips’ to Clarkson wearing chaps , a pink shirt , he should get some moisturiser . It’s f**king pathetic and actually homophobic . And screw them and the show and Amazon (who by the way is a wonderful organisation I hope to forge a relationship..

'.. relationship with through lgbt content ) for putting this shaming archaic trype out. @amazonprimenow it’s insulting and they can’t rest on laurels of ‘oh we are just politically incorrect’ It’s sad and shaming , bigoted and for f**ks sake grow up. How dare they stereotype

'Gay men . I DON’T drive a Wrangler Jeep. I DON’T wear pink shirts . I DON’T wear a**eless chaps. You can be honest and funny without this ridiculous ‘lad’ ooh being gay and let’s laugh about it mentality . It’s repulsive and how DARE you do it and put it out @PrimeVideo

'Hang on they are doing more HYSTERICAL things . Pink roof now on Clarkson’s Jeep AND they are playing ‘it’s raining men’ it’s SO funny I can’t contain myself. I mean being gay is just SO funny for those type of straight men @PrimeVideo

'And you know what really f**ks me off is this is a DECISION by the producers . Let’s make one of the narratives the ‘gay Jeep’ how DARE you you obtuse , bigoted immature babies of men [sic].'

He then tagged a number of LGBT+ news outlets.

MailOnline has approached Amazon Prime and May, Clarkson and Hammond for comment.

In the irreverent scenes, Clarkson gets behind the wheel of the Jeep, to which Hammond says: 'I'm proud of you. That's a hard thing to do and you've done it. You're going to be so much happier.'

This remark is, on it's own, somewhat odd, but he then elaborates, saying: 'You should have gone the whole hog... maybe some nice chaps, suede but ventilated at the back. And that [pink] shirt, you've picked up that colour - have you been getting advice?'

Hammond was the centre of a similar anti-gay furor in 2016 when he made a statement suggesting that only homosexuals eat ice-cream.

While sat in a brand new Rolls-Royce, Clarkson declared that eating a chocolate Magnum ice-cream would not be tolerated inside the car.

Hammond was then sure to remind viewers of his sexuality, by assuring Clarkson that there would be no ice-cream eating from him - anywhere.

'It's all right, I don't eat ice-cream. It's something to do with being straight. Ice-cream is a bit... y'know,' he said.

Clarkson pressed this, asking: 'You're saying ice-cream is a bit... You're saying all children are homosexual?'

Hammond replied: 'No, but... There's nothing wrong with it, but a grown man eating an ice-cream, you know, it's a bit... It's that way rather than that way.'

This was then followed by a gag about a 99 flake and the 69 position.

Hammond later told The Times: 'I entirely reject any criticism of me being anti-gay. That's just not the case. The very last thing I am is in any way anti-gay. And I said I believe that love is love.'

He added: 'There are people who are genuinely homophobic and they would disagree with my view that love is love and people are who they are.'

Hammond also remarked once that he didn't understand why LGBT+ people 'feel the need' to come out of the closet anymore, for which he also received criticism.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
