«Breaking News» Anti-vax mom mocked for asking Facebook group for help protecting unimmunized child from measles

An anti-vaxxer mom is being ruthlessly mocked for asking a 'natural health' anti-vaccination Facebook group for tips on how to protect her unvaccinated child from the measles outbreak currently occurring in her state.

The woman, whose name has been redacted, appeared to have been sincerely asking for help when she recently posted the now viral message in the private Facebook group, 'Vaccine Education Network : Natural Health Anti-Vaxx Community.'

'My 3 year old is not vaccinated and there is currently a measles outbreak in my state. Any suggestions for precautions I can take to protect her would be very much appreciated,' the woman wrote in her appeal for help.

The woman's post was screengrabbed and tweeted out by the Richard Dawkins Foundation — an organization which aims to promote scientific literacy and a secular worldview — among others, prompting a slew of responses that were long on sarcasm and short on sympathy.

The United States is currently in the midst of what's being called the worst measles outbreak in decades, having impacted the Pacific Northwest, Georgia and New York so far.

The childhood disease had been previously declared eradicated in the US in 2000, but has come roaring back to life largely due to the growing number of parents who have decided not to vaccinate their children.

While tweeting out the screengrab of the anti-vaxxer mom's request for suggestions on how she could protect her unvaccinated child from catching measles, the Richard Dawkins Foundation asked, 'Can anyone guess how this person could protect their child from the measles?'

The United States is currently experiencing a wave of measles outbreaks with more than 170 confirmed cases since January 1, infecting many people who have not been vaccinated

Among the responses were 'Adoption,' 'Thoughts and prayers,' 'Move to a flat earth,' and 'Did you try sharing her picture on Facebook with the caption "1 like equal one prayer"?'

One tweeter suggested consulting 'the noted scientist and medical expert Jenny McCarthy,' a celebrity who has said that her son's autism was caused by vaccinations, a claim that has not been supported by any medical evidence.

Other tweeters questioned, 'If only there existed some kind of medicine to protect children from getting such illnesses. A vaccination if you will...' and pointed out, 'Why protection? Let the child have measles... After all is all natural & organic...'

Some people responded with more pointed statements.

'Measles is not the biggest threat to your child. A parent who gets their medical advice from Facebook is,' wrote on tweeter, while another one wrote, 'If there was an alternative, there wouldnt be a measles outbreak in your state.'

Another tweeter told the woman to 'Invent a time machine, go back in time and knock the stupidity out of your head, realise that vaccination is important, give your child proper vaccinations.'

Some tweeters pondered whether a vaccination might be of any use in helping to prevent the anti-vaxxer mom's child from catching measles

It's unclear what state the anti-vaxxer mom lives in and is referring to, but as of Thursday morning, officials said that there were 38 confirmed cases of measles in Clark County, Washington, with 27 of those cases occurring in children 10 years old or younger and at least 34 of the people infected are unvaccinated, according to US News & World Report.

In Rockland County, New York, health officials said they have confirmed 130 cases of measles, ABC 7 reported, and three cases have been confirmed in Georgia, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution

In 2018, there were 349 confirmed measles cases across the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control

Measles lives in the nose and throat mucus of infected people and can be spread through coughing and sneezing, the CDC says. The virus can live on surfaces or in the air of confined air spaces, such as an airplane or bus, for up to two hours.

The virus is said to be so contagious that if one person has it, 90 per cent of the people close to them without immunity will also become infected.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
