«Breaking News» Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez takes her immigration fight with Trump directly to the White House

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took her immigration reform plea directly to the White House on Tuesday morning, joining a group of migrants asking the U.S. government to grant them amnesty.

The migrants fled their home countries after disasters on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) orders that allowed them to relocate to the United States.

A lawsuit filed on their behalf this week includes 15,000 migrants affected by a 2015 earthquake in Nepal and 86,000 Hondurans who were displaced by a 1998 hurricane.

They want U.S. lawmakers to make them 'permanent' residents as part of an immigration overhaul.

'We are fighting for the longstanding principle, and the longstanding that the people who built this country, stay in this country,' Ocasio-Cortez told the group protesting outside the Whie House amid light rain.

To cheering, the congresswoman from New York said, 'And we are part of the long, long fight for the people whose hands built this country be honored and respected in the United States of America.'

She alternated between English and Spanish for the remarks that lasted approximately three minutes, according to a video captured by a reporter for the Washington Examiner.

'We need to make sure that we as a nation honor our promises, and that is what this is all about. From Nepal to Honduras,' she said.' We have made a promise to say that the United States will be a safe haven.'

From disasters to war, Ocasio-Cortez argued that the U.S. has promised to be a 'lantern' for refugees around the world.

'We are a nation that turns peril into promise. We are a nation that builds from many. And we have to protect our basic character as a nation to be that,' she said.

The Democratic congresswoman explicitly called for immigrants to become 'permanent' members of American society.

President Trump included a three-year extension of the TPS recipients' status in a deal last month Democrats rejected.

The opposing party said that the timeframe wasn't long enough. They believe the migrants, and illegal immigrants who were brought to the nation in their youth, should be able to remain in the U.S. indefinitely and have the ability to become citizens.

Negotiators are on the brink of revealing another deal that does not resolve the TPS holders' situation. The spending deal addresses a dispute over detention beds and Trump's border barrier but doesn't go much deeper than that.

The National TPS Alliance organized the protest outside the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue that Ocasio-Cortez showed up to before it was clear what was in the deal.

A media advisory said the purpose of the rally was to send a message to President Trump and the new Congress. A second event is taking place on Capitol Hill later on Tuesday.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
