The Loose Women panel were slammed on social media for their debate about Roxanne Pallett on Tuesday.

Viewers accused host Ruth Langsford and panellists Janet Street-Porter, Linda Robson and Saira Khan of 'double standards' as they urged online trolls to stop 'punishing' the recently disgraced Celebrity Big Brother contestant, 35.

Angry viewers criticised their calls, claiming that they were being 'hypocrites' in the wake of the Kim Woodburn incident.

While discussing Roxanne's 'punchgate' backlash – after she falsely accused Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas of physical abuse – Janet Street-Porter reasoned that everyone needs to 'accept that young people make mistakes.'

She said: 'It came to a point with this girl I thought enough. What do you want? Do you want something dreadful to happen to her in a public place?

'You have to accept that young people make mistakes. She did something that was totally out of order. We can't go on punishing people.'

Ruth Langsford praised Ryan's 'measured response' during his exit interview, in which he forgave Roxanne.

Ruth said: 'I thought for him to say you know what "she needs forgiveness," because there’s a part of me now… It's not that I feel sorry for her, I just think how long can she keep saying sorry and punishing her?'

Saira Khan - who has previously taken part in Celebrity Big Brother - argued that nobody is sure about Roxanne's 'mental health state'.

The Apprentice star said: 'We don't know her backstory. Obviously there's something that's not quite right. I think Jeremy Vine was quite right to not push her that far.

'He got criticised for not being hard enough. You look at young people how they deal with their mental health state. It doesn't always end well.

'I think she's apologised and everybody's so angry about what she did.'

How much longer? When discussing Roxanne, Ruth said: 'It's not that I feel sorry for her, I just think how long can she keep saying sorry and punishing her?'

The four ladies' sentiments didn't go down well with viewers, with fans of the show taking to social media to slam the panel for their remarks.

One person tweeted: 'So on today's show you can yet again address the Roxanne incident but no one has said a word about the Coleen and Kim incident since it happened. Talk about double standards!'

Another infuriated viewer said: 'They were ripping into Roxanne last week hypocrites #LooseWomen.'

Someone else tweeted: 'We all know Kim Woodburn's back story, we can see she's in a bad place but it didn't stop you lot going in for her. The hypocrisy is astounding #LooseWomen.'

Viewers also feared that show bosses would try to set up a similar reunion between Roxanne and Ryan Thomas after the 'punchgate' scandal.

On Twitter, one fan of the show asked: 'So loose women producers, are you going to try and set up another awful/inappropriate encouncer/interview with Ryan and Roxanne to get them to make up like you did with Coleen and Kim? Hmm #loosewomen.'

Others suggested that the chat show might look at adding Roxanne to the line-up, following Coleen's departure.

One person tweeted: '#loosewomen No doubt they'll replace Coleen Nolan with Roxanne she should slot in nicely.'

MailOnline has contacted Loose Women for comment.

Viewers had slammed the panellists for 'muttering under their breath' while Kim broke down in tears discussing her traumatic childhood while on the chat show, sparking over 3,297 complaints to media watchdog Ofcom.

The pair had been embroiled in a feud since starring on Celebrity Big Brother together in January 2017, but people at home felt Coleen was in the wrong during the interview.

After the controversial interview, Coleen insisted she is 'not a bully' after fans slammed the hit show's panel over their behaviour towards Kim.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
