A Kentucky deputy and retired Marine has been left paralyzed following a fatal shootout with a Florida bank robbery suspect.
Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton tells news outlets that doctors say 28-year-old deputy Jaime Morales is '90 per cent paraplegic.'
State police say the suspect who shot Morales in the back of the head, 57-year-old Edward Reynolds, died at the scene.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office in Florida had obtained an arrest warrant for Reynolds on September 11 in connection with a July bank robbery.
Later that day, Morales was among a group of Scott County deputies and Georgetown police officers assisting the US Marshal's Service when they tracked down the fugitive to a rest area along Interstate 75 in Scott County, just north of Lexington.
At 10.15pm that night, law enforcement officials confronted Reynolds and there was an exchange of gunfire, which left the suspect dead and deputy Morales critically injured.
Morales has undergone multiple surgeries and will be transferred to a spinal rehabilitation facility when his chest tubes are removed.
The 28-year-old Morales previously served as a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and has been with the Scott County sheriff's office for two and a half years, Sheriff Hampton said.

He described Morales as an 'outstanding' deputy who 'carries a lot of qualifications that you want to see in a deputy sheriff.'
'I told him I loved him and that we all loved him, and that we'll be with him and he's going to get through this,' Hampton told Lexington Herald-Leader.
Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin and Attorney General Andy Beshear were among state leaders who sent their thoughts and prayers through Twitter to the deputy last week.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched on Monday to help Morales and his family with his medical costs and other expenses related to his recovery, such as a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. As of Tuesday morning, more than $7,500 has been raised.

The sheriff’s office is also selling T-shirts emblazoned with Morales' badge number, 217, to raise additional funds for him.

While serving as lance corporal with the US Marine Corps in 2013, he earned a black belt in martial arts.
Reynolds was wanted in Florida on a charge of robbery with a firearm in connection with a July 25 bank robbery in Sarasota County.
According to an affidavit, Reynolds demanded $100, $50 and $20 bills as he lifted his shirt and showed the teller a gun in his waistband. He fled in a convertible, authorities said.
Reynolds also was positively identified recently as a suspect in bank robberies earlier this year in Cape Coral, Florida, the affidavit said.
Meanwhile, police in Punta Gorda identified Reynolds as the suspect in a bank robbery in the Florida city in late May. He indicated he had a weapon and demanded cash from a teller, police said.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
