But according to diet guru Terri Ann Nunns and Strictly star Katie Piper, you can enjoy socialising over dinner without putting all your slimming efforts to waste.
Mother-of-four Terri Ann from Doncaster lost seven stone on her own regime and is now raking in £500K a year after creating her own weight loss plan from the elements of different diets that worked for her.
She and Katie teamed up earlier this year to launch the Healthy Happy Mum Plan and now they have worked with dietician Ro Huntriss to produce the ultimate guide to low calorie options at your favourite restaurants.
Even fast food outlets such as KFC and McDonald's need not be off the menu with plenty of options coming in at under 500 calories.

Chicken is a great high protein, low calorie option so it's no wonder Nando's has a surprising array of reasonably healthy options.
There are more than 50 different dishes under 600 calories, with dishes such as three chicken wings and a quarter chicken breast coming in at under 300 calories.
As long as you avoid calorific fries and sauces, there's plenty to choose from.


If you're a fan of Nando's you can enjoy a Plain Fillet Steak Prego Roll, which contains just 364 calories, without ruining your diet
KFC
KFC might not be the obvious choice for low calorie options, but like Nando's - it's all about the chicken.
Be smart about your choices and you can enjoy BBQ Wraps and Popcorn Chicken, which come in under 300 calories.
Meanwhile, the Fillet Burger and Original Recipe Ricebox are both under 500 calories.


Who says you can't enjoy a burger when you're on a diet? KFC's chicken Fillet Burger comes in at 400 calories, so just avoid the fries and tuck in
McDonald’s
Despite popular belief, there are actually loads of options on the McDonald’s menu that can be enjoyed as part of a low carb diet.
For under 300 calories you can indulge in a Cheeseburger, Chicken McNuggets, Egg and Cheese McMuffin or Cheesy Bacon Flatbread.


Even if you're on a diet you can still tuck into a Bacon Double Cheeseburger at McDonald's for just under 500 calories
Subway
You’ll be amazed by the number of items under 300 calories on the Subway menu. Enjoy a Cheese Toastie, Pepperoni Pizza, Steak and Cheese or Big Beef Melt guilt-free.
And if you feel like a real treat, the Chicken and Bacon Ranch Melt and Spicy Italian both come under 400 calories.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
