«Breaking News» Cheerleader accused of killing and burying her newborn was 'freaked out' by pregnancy

The Ohio cheerleader accused of killing her newborn and burying it in the backyard freaked out when doctors revealed she was pregnant, prosecutors claim.

Skylar Richardson, then 18, told doctors in May 2017 that she had no intention of having a child just months before starting college, prosecutors said during an appears hearing on Tuesday.

Assistant Warren County Prosecutor Kirsten Brandt claimed Skylar's reaction was so 'extreme and over the top' the doctors said she needed to tell them if she was having thoughts about hurting her child.

Brandt also claimed the teen did not go back to her doctor for an ultrasound or blood tests.

She said Skylar ignored phone calls from her doctor and did 'nothing to prepare for this baby coming into the world'.

When Skylar saw her doctor again in July, she told him she had delivered her daughter in the middle of the night and buried her in the backyard.

Brandt claimed the doctor then called his friend at the Middletown Police Department while another called the Carlisle police.

Skylar - who has maintained the baby was delivered stillborn - was charged with aggravated murder, involuntary manslaughter, endangering children, tampering with evidence, and gross abuse of a corpse in July 2017.

Charlie Rittgers, Skylar's attorney, said the prosecution was 'fabricating' what really happened and said he was 'pissed' about how they described Skylar's reaction.

'It's just not true that Skylar Richardson had no intention of having a baby,' he told the Cincinnati Enquirer

Skylar's attorneys told a completely different version of events, one in which her doctor was not at all concerned by the teen's reaction to her unplanned pregnancy.

Neal Schuett said it was not considered unusual that Skylar would cry after hearing she was pregnant.

He said her doctor made 'generic statements about depression', but that he does so with other 'young women in similar situations'.

And doctors from the office called Skylar because she was far along in her pregnancy and they wanted to check on her.

Schuett said the doctor called his cop friend because he did not know the protocol for reporting the child's death. He was not concerned that Skylar may have harmed her child.

Judges hearing the case interrupted Schuett to point out details in the case that he was skirting past.

'It's not normal for someone to bury a child in the backyard,' Judge Robert Hendrickson told him. 'Why wouldn't there be reasonable suspicion here?'

Skylar has been awaiting trial as her defense team works to bar prosecutors from presenting testimony from her doctor, citing physician-patient privilege.

The 12th District Court of Appeals is currently hearing both the prosecution and defense's arguments, but it could take months for a ruling to be made.

Skylar, now 19, is currently under modified house arrest. Both she and her parents skipped the hearing.

The prosecutors' claim comes just days after Skylar's family revealed they did not know she was pregnant and was happy when she began putting on weight after battling anorexia for years.

'If she had come to me and said she was pregnant, I would have said, "Okay, not exactly in the cards, but we will deal with it,"' Kim told the Cincinnati Enquirer

'That would have been easier to deal with than this eating disorder.'

While Skylar was long able to hide her disorder behind her bubbly personality, the anorexia came to light after she nearly passed out at a cheerleading competition.

Skylar, who was 16 at the time, saw a number of counselors as her weight continued to fluctuate - dropping as low as 90 pounds on her 5ft 1in frame.

'I can't describe it. When your child won't eat a piece of gum or is worried about toothpaste and you can't do anything about it,' Kim recalled.

Skylar's aunt Vanessa said the teen 'in no way, shape, or form' looked pregnant when they went on a spring break trip together her senior year.

'I was happy because I was like, Oh, she met this nice boy. She doesn't care about how she looks anymore, doesn't care if she's getting thick,' Vanessa told Cosmopolitan

'I mean, the eating disorders were always horrible. So we were all like, "Oh, yay! She's putting weight on"'.

But family said they were overjoyed when Skylar (pictured in December 2017) began putting on weight after battling anorexia for years

Looking back at Skylar's prom photo, taken two days before she gave birth, Vanessa said she can see the bump now.

'We are hating ourselves for that now,' she said. 'But at the time, we just thought she was eating good and not making herself throw up. She looked curvy and radiant.'

But County Prosecutor David Fornshell - who has called himself 'extraordinarily pro-life' - painted a far different picture of Skylar and her family, saying they were desperate to maintain their perfect image.

'Skylar and her family, particularly her mother, were pretty obsessed with external appearances and how things appeared to the outside world,' he said in a press conference after the teen was charged.

'You have a situation where, you know, she's a cute recent high school graduate. She was a cheerleader, described a good girl by her attorney.'

'And I think that kind of perception is one that Skylar wanted to perpetuate and her mother wanted to perpetuate.'

It was also Fornshell who would claim that Skylar not only buried her dead baby, but burned the newborn girl's body as well.

His storyline of an appearances-driven cheerleader who would kill, burn, and bury her newborn immediately took off.

'Our lives completely changed on that day,' Kim said. 'And now this is our new normal.'

The family is now often followed by people who obsessively follow the case and write about it for one of two fan pages on Facebook.

Some call Sylar a 'baby killer' when they see her walking down the street. Others scream 'Murderer!'

The family has since had to put up black curtains in their backyard patio. They often find cars parked outside their home. They are no longer welcome at their church.

Skylar's defense attorneys have blasted prosecutors for 'a false narrative' that sensationalized the case.

They say the teen didn't kill her baby, and that an expert witness concluded there was no sign of burning or of trauma that would have caused the baby's death.

The case has become a sensation in the small town of Carlisle, Ohio, where people often follow Skylar - who is on modified house arrest - and take pictures of her for Facebook groups

'What started as an 18-year-old high school girl who was frightened and saddened because of giving birth to a stillborn baby whom she named Annabelle and then telling her doctor of the stillborn and burial in the backyard turned into something sinister and grotesque,' they said in a motion to move the trial.

A forensic expert who claimed Annabelle had been burned has since retracted their claim. A second expert likewise confirmed there were no signs the baby was burned.

Prosecutors argued that the privilege doesn't apply in this case, but were ultimately shot down and forced to delay the start of the trial without that crucial evidence.

As she continues to await trial, Skylar - who was due to start at the University of Cincinnati in the fall of 2017 - is living a life that's on hold.

And Kim is dreaming of the granddaughter she never got to cherish.

'She would be one-year-old now and walking,' Kim said. 'It is so hard to believe that I had a grandchild that I never got to hold.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
