The Beckhams' body language in landmark Vogue shoot

After months of being plagued by divorce rumours, the message conveyed by their Vogue shoot could not have been clearer: after 19 years of marriage, the Beckhams are stronger than ever.

Victoria and David put on a united front to join their four children on the front of the British fashion bible this week where they spoke about their marriage and the importance of being a 'family unit'.

And according to body language expert Judi James, the couple paint a picture of domestic bliss with Victoria positioning herself as the 'maternal leader' who delegates the 'playful side' of family life to her husband.

Here Judi, author of The Body Language Bible, reveals what the Beckhams' body language really tells us about their family dynamics.

1. Victoria the 'maternal leader'

David is not pictured on the magazine cover, which features just Victoria children Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 13, Harper, seven, and their beloved spaniel, Olive, sitting underneath a tree.

Casually dressed in a baggy white shirt, the matriarch wraps a protective arm around Romeo, who in turn is cuddling his little sister.

'Victoria presents herself as a strong, happy and relaxed but determined-looking maternal leader of her gorgeous family group,' notes Judi.

'Sitting central to the children and with an arm slung round them, Victoria's facial expression looks protective and loving as though she would challenge anyone trying to come between her and the kids.'

2. Victoria goes solo in 'open and authentic' shot

'Open and authentic': Beckham matriarch Victoria exudes 'emphatic' confidence in this sultry solo shot, according to body language expert Judi James, who adds: 'She is technically stripped back bare looking strong, fit and happy for the camera'

'In her solo shot, this new air of individual confidence is emphatic,' says Judi. 'With her hair covered she is technically stripped back bare looking strong, fit and happy for the camera.

'The pose is relaxed and more giving emotionally than her usual poses suggesting that this open and authentic version of her is more comfortable and sexual that we normally see.'

3. 'Reflective' Victoria leaves the playful stuff to David

While a soaked David cracks a smile as he watches the kids, Victoria looks into the distance serenely.

Judi says: 'The shot with David shows a change of dynamic. With him in the playful family group she disconnects slightly, reverting to a more distant and reflective gaze while David does the fun stuff.'

How the Beckhams laughed off divorce rumours

Back in June, the Beckhams were forced to vehemently deny speculation that they were heading for a divorce just weeks before their 19th wedding anniversary.

It later emerged that during this turbulent time Victoria sat down with her four children to reassure them about the state of their parents' marriage.

At the time of the divorce rumours - which seemed to involve speculation about David's faithfulness to his wife - Jo Milloy, a spokesman for Victoria, told the Daily Mail the gossip was 'absolute nonsense'.

Meanwhile, former England football captain David's spokesman, Simon Oliveira, dubbed the claims ‘embarrassing and laughable’.

'There is no statement due, no divorce, and a lot of Chinese whispers and fake social media news,' he said. 'This is all very bizarre and an embarrassing waste of time.'

Claims the couple were planning to divorce circulated on social media earlier in the summer, prompting high street bookmaker Paddy Power to suspend betting on them separating. Paddy Power's move came despite there having been no suggestion the couple were having any marriage difficulties.

The Mail on Sunday revealed that when Victoria saw the social media rumours about her marriage, she jokingly asked husband David, who was away in America at the time: ‘Are you divorcing me?’

The designer was said to be bemused but cracked jokes about it with friends.

A friend of the couple said: ‘Victoria was taken aback, but she found the whole thing very funny. They have had a sense of humour about this because it’s so ridiculous.

‘They are stunned that so many people have believed it, and also stunned that it so quickly got around. They spoke about it and laughed a lot. They have absolutely no idea where or how it started. It’s quite the mystery.’

Speaking in Vogue this week, Victoria said: 'People have been making things up about our relationship for 20 years, so David and I are pretty used to ignoring the nonsense and just carrying on as normal.'

'But these things have a wider effect on the people around us, and that’s unfair.'

Talking about brand Beckham, Victoria added: 'We both realise that we are stronger together than we are as individuals. Would either of us be in the position that we are in now had we not met and been together all those years ago? It’s all about the family unit.

'We are much stronger - the six of us - than we would be if we were individuals. We respect that family bond and that is key.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 350,000 other people.
