Meghan Markle snuggles with the goddaughter who would go on to be her bridesmaid in unseen snap

Now among the most photographed women in the world, the Duchess of Sussex is never snapped looking anything less than immaculately coiffed. 

But this intimate throwback photo offers a glimpse of the then actress's off-duty style before her life was turned on its head by her royal romance. 

Unearthed by a royal fan and shared on Instagram, the candid snap captures a make-up free Meghan snuggling in bed to watch TV with one of her 'fairy goddaughters', apparently blissfully happy in pyjamas and with her hair in a tousled top knot. 

Meghan is godmother to her close friend Benita Litt's two daughters, Rylan, now seven - who is thought to be the little girl with her in the photograph - and her six-year-old sister Remi. 

The then actress spent Christmas 2016 with the Litt family, and shared a snap of them gathered in front of the tree on her now defunct Instagram account in which she called Rylan and Remi her 'fairy goddaughters'.   

Just one year on Meghan would spend Christmas with her husband-to-be Prince Harry and his family at the Queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

Five months later, the little girl who snuggled up to watch TV with her godmother in fairy wings and a tutu would follow her up the aisle at Windsor Castle as she prepared to marry the sixth in line to the British throne.

The photograph, which may have originally been shared on Meghan's own Instagram account before she left the social media platform as her relationship with the Prince grew increasingly serious, was posted by a fan of the Duchess, @harrysmegri, who wrote: 'Sharing cause this photo is so darn adorable #meghanmarkle #babyfairyprincesses #DuchessofSussex'.

It shows Meghan clad in blue pyjamas, and with a tray on her lap holding the remnants of a TV dinner she'd apparently enjoyed in the company of her adorable goddaughter.  

The closeness of Meghan's relationship to the Litt family became clear when the now Duke and Duchess revealed their bridal party during the build up to the royal wedding on May 19th. 

As well as Prince Harry's nephew Prince George and niece Prince Charlotte, the royal couple chose eight children of their close friends to accompany Meghan down the aisle. 

The former Suits star's best friend and fashion advisor Jessica Mulroney's three children, twins Brian and John and their little sister Ivy, were among her attendants on the big day. 

Prince Harry's godchildren, Jasper Dyer, Zalie Warren and Florence Van Cutsem, completed their sweet bridal party.

After a quiet summer spent settling into married life, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently returned to the spotlight to host a charity performance of the smash hit musical Hamilton at London's Victoria Palace Theatre last Wednesday. 

The performance, also attended by the show's creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, raised money for Sentebale, the charity founded by Prince Harry to support young people in Lesotho and Botswana affected by HIV.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had a bridal party of 10 page boys and flower girls, including Harry's nephew and niece Prince George and Princess Charlotte, and their many godchildren  

The Duke and Duchess are also set to attend the Wellchild awards ceremony in London today, which celebrates the courageousness of seriously ill young people around the country, as well as the efforts of those who care for them.
