Viewers were left wondering why Jeremy Vine was leniant towards Roxanne Pallett during her tell-all apology on Monday.
And the broadcaster has now confessed the real reason he adopted a sensitive approach towards the former Emmerdale actress, saying he was concerned she would 'take her life tomorrow'.
Roxanne has been at the centre of a media storm after branding her CBB co-star Ryan Thomas a 'woman beater' when he 'punched her' during a play fight, demanding her be removed from the Channel 5 show house.
Sensitive: Jeremy Vine has now confessed the real reason he adopted a sensitive approach towards the former Emmerdale actress, saying he was concerned she would 'take her life tomorrow'
The actress appeared on the Jeremy Vine show on Monday morning to discuss the incident - and some fans felt she wasn't pushed enough.
Jeremy explained: 'I’m sitting here thinking, "She could take her life tomorrow", and we’ve got all these people carrying pitchforks who probably want her to die, but it’s not pitchfork journalism.
His co-host Jamelia said: 'I think this whole Roxanne story has really got everyone talking and I think it's really important that these conversations are had.
'Obviously we were here yesterday and I found it really difficult being on the show with her, particularly after watching the show.
'It’s really funny it’s very important in that scenario to be constructive.'
However, the singer-turned-presenter says she changed her mind after watching CBB host Emma Willis grill her during a pre-recorded interview aired on Monday night.
'At the time when we were here I though it could be sincere… then I saw another interview with her yesterday with Emma and she said exactly the same thing, word for word.
'And to me that meant it was a performance, it felt that they were very rehearsed lines and that might make me seem heartless but it reinforced what I thought which is she needs to get help and at no point did she say sorry.
'She said I apologise, but not sorry, and I do think that sorry is different.'
This comes after Roxanne dubbed herself 'the most hated woman in Britain' after returning to the CBB studio.
The actress, 35, has been slated by members of the public and fellow screen stars who have called for her to face 'further' action after her claims about former Corrie star Ryan.
The former housemate appeared was quizzed by Emma Willis, 42, about her claims in the house in a 'savage' no-holds barred interview screened last night which set the internet alight.
Roxanne walked out of the Big Brother house in the early hours of Saturday morning after claiming Thomas punched her 'like a boxer would punch a bag' on Thursday night's episode.
Broadcast regulator Ofcom received more than 11,000 complaints over her claims as footage appeared to contradict her claims.
A staggering 21 former Emmerdale co-stars slammed the actress while many claimed she was making a 'mockery' of real abuse victims.
Responding to firm questioning by Emma, Roxanne said that she was 'devastated and sorry' and that she was 'scared about her future'.
She also told the presenter 'things in the past' have made her 'fragile'.

She said: 'I needed to come and tell everyone that I got it wrong, I'm human, I made a massive, massive, horrible mistake.'
When asked by Emma whether she felt she could be forgiven for the ordeal, the ex-Emmerdale star said: 'I would hope that I could be [forgiven].'
Echoing much of what she said earlier on Monday, when she appeared on current affairs show Jeremy Vine, Roxanne began her interview by saying: 'Watching [the clip of what happened] feels like a completely different scenario to how it felt at the time.
'How it felt when he did it - it hurt. I can't prove a feeling, it became heightened and I convinced myself that he meant it. It DID hurt.'
Ryan had playfully 'punched' Roxanne in the dining area of the CBB house. She branded him a 'woman beater' before going to the Diary Room to demand Ryan be removed from the house.
He was issued with a formal warning, but Roxanne claimed to be afraid of him, asking to sleep in a separate room that evening and seen crying and shaking.
She then told her fellow housemates that he had 'repeatedly hit her in the ribs', which led them to confront him about it.
On eventually understanding what took place, the housemates backed Ryan, with Roxanne leaving the show in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, Ryan's girlfriend Lucy Mecklenburgh has revealed her distress at watching the show, as have his brothers.
Lucy slammed producers and urged them to show the footage to the housemates as she said 'this is sick'.

'I wish I had the words to say how gutted... hindsight is a great thing,' Roxanne replied. 'I just manufactured a different version [of what happened] in my mind.
'I used terminology like woman beater, assault and abuse, I can't apologise enough.'
Emma asked her if she had spoken to Ryan's family.
She replied: 'I wouldn't impose on Ryan's family but I can't apologise enough for trying to label someone as something he's not.'
'Don't you think you should?' Emma had hit back.
The presenter asked the actress what her family thought about the situation, to which she replied 'they are gutted for me'.
