Lily Allen 'social media is undoing the progress of women's issues'

Lily Allen touched down in Sydney with boyfriend Meridian Dan on Monday.

And on Tuesday she appeared on The Project making some strong statements on the state of women's issues in the social media age. 

The 33-year-old said she feels 'progress' is being undone by the popularity of Instagram and similar platforms and she worries for her young daughters.

The singer said she was 'not excited' to be bringing her children up in an image focused world. 

'A lot of progress has been made with women's issues. I feel like with the rise of Instagram and social media, a lot of that is undoing that work if I'm honest,' she said. 

The smile singer added: 'I'm talking more about women thinking that their value is in the way that they look and that is it.

Lily has two children with ex husband Sam Cooper, who she split from in 2016, Ethel, seven, and Marnie, five. 

The comments come after the British singer candidly confessed to using female escorts following the breakdown of her marriage.

Lily told her 870,000 Instagram followers: 'I slept with female escorts when I was on tour, cause I was lost and lonely and looking for something.' 

The troubled pop star said: 'I'm not proud, but I'm not ashamed. I don't do it any more.'  

She said she met the escorts in 2014 around the time she released her album Sheezus and was suffering from post-natal depression after the birth of her second daughter Marnie a year earlier.

She was also experiencing marital trouble and in 2016 split with businessman husband Sam Cooper after five years of marriage.
