«Breaking News» Yet another apple is found with a needle in it after being bought at Coles

The fruit needle contamination crisis continues to spread with another apple and more bananas spiked.

A Melbourne resident reported they purchased the Granny Smith apple at a Coles supermarket only to later discover the needle when they went to bite into the fruit.

The apple had been bought from a store in Boronia, in the city's east, with Coles advising the matter was now being investigated by police, 3AW reported. 

The infected banana was uncovered by a school student at a primary school in Newcastle, north of Sydney, on Wednesday morning.

The discovery comes after a needle was found inside a Pink Lady apple (pictured) which was purchased from a supermarket in North Sydney on Tuesday 

The shock find was made when the student unpacked the banana from their lunch box, with teachers alerted and the police called in.   

'The school is sending a message to all parents to tell them what has happened,' a Diocese of Maitland Newcastle spokesman told the Newcastle Herald.

'The student is okay and police have been called.' 

The latest developments come as Prime Minister Scott Morrison is set to introduce a law which would see copycat fruit saboteurs jailed for 10 years.

Mr Morrison said those responsible were 'idiots' and called for stronger legislation.

Anyone found guilty of contaminating food would face a maximum of 15 years in jail, up from 10 years.

Additionally, anyone who piggy-backed on such a crisis by engaging in a reckless hoax would also face 10 years behind bars.

'Some idiot, for his own reasons, or her own reasons, has engaged in an act of sabotage,' Mr Morrison told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday.

Queensland police have also confirmed they were investigating an incident where a metal object was found inside a banana.

Six strawberry farms in Queensland and one in Western Australia have been targeted by what authorities believe could have been disgruntled packaging employees.

And on Tuesday, a needle was reportedly found inside a Pink Lady apple. 

New South Wales Police are investigating claims that an apple was found with a sewing needle inside of it in North Sydney on Tuesday. 

A woman was peeling freshly bought apples for her daughters to enjoy when she made the horrifying discovery, firstly believing it to be the stem of the fruit. 

Seven News reported it was a Pink Lady Apple from inside a pre-packed container at the Woolworths in the The Ponds, in Sydney's north-west.

The woman, named only as Carmello, said she was stunned.

'I just thought wow this can't possibly be happening,' she said.

A South Australian woman also reported she had found a nail embedded inside a Pink Lady apple which she had purchased from Woolworths.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
