«Breaking News» Xherdan Shaqiri is paired with the tallest mascot during England win — SIX THINGS YOU MISSED

England avoided the unwanted record of becoming the first Three Lions side to lose four games on the bounce after they beat Switzerland 1-0 at the King Power Stadium.

Marcus Rashford's goal was all that separated the two sides on the night which saw England's second-string side turn things up in the second half after an underwhelming first 45 minutes.

Here, Sportsmail's SAM MCEVOY takes a look at the things that may have escaped you from England's clash with Switzerland.

Shaqiri hilariously get paired with the tallest mascot

Lorenzo Insigne will understand how Xherdan Shaqiri will be feeling on Tuesday evening.

The tiny forward often gets paired with the tallest mascots before matches and it seems to be a running gag in Naples.

However, Shaqiri seems to have been given the same treatment as he walked out with his mascot at the King Power.

The Liverpool man could barely be seen as he lined up for his national anthem on Tuesday as he had his arm around the youngster.

Gazza reunites with Gareth

During the build up to the match, Paul Gascoigne was spotted in the tunnel having a laugh with Gareth Southgate.

The England boss recently bemoaned his side's lack of playmakers and said that his former team-mate was the country's last true genius to pull on the shirt.

Gazza jokingly replied that he'd come out of retirement to play for Gareth and it appears the two were discussing just that.

Vardy is having a party... a retirement party

Jamie Vardy announced last week that he would no longer be donning the England shirt in the future.

At the age of 31 and competing for a place up top with England's captain, Harry Kane, it is understandable why he's made the decision.

However, it didn't stop the Leicester striker from coming to watch his former team-mates play the Swiss national team at the King Power.

Vardy cheered on from a director's box with wife Rebekah and a couple of friends on Tuesday evening.

Rashford likes variety

Rashford has enjoyed a good week while on duty for England this week.

The Manchester United man scored in the 2-1 defeat to Spain and managed to be the difference for the Three Lions on Tuesday night against Switzerland.

However, what seems more impressive is that Rashford five international goals have come at four different stadiums.

He has scored twice at Wembley, once at Elland Road, once at the Stadium of Light and now at the King Power.

England should tour the country more often.

Puel pleased for Chilwell

Ben Chilwell earned his first England cap when he came on during the second half.

The 21-year-old was met with applause from the home crowd but more so from the man who gave him his chance at Leicester, Claude Puel.

The left back has become a mainstay under the Foxes boss and it must have been a nice moment for the French manager.

Chilwell follows in Scholes' footsteps

Chilwell got on to make his England debut in front of his friends and family as he ran out on to the turf he plays on week in week out.

The defender came on for Danny Rose and became the first player since Paul Scholes in 1997 to make his England debut at his current club's ground.

Scholes featured for England for the first time in the 2-1 friendly win over South Africa at Old Trafford.

The Manchester United legend went on to make 66 appearances for the Three Lions and score 14 goals at international level.

Can Chilwell enjoy similar success for England?

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
