«Breaking News» Worcestershire Rapids starlet Pat Brown tempted by T20 riches

Pat Brown is the final-year business studies student ready to put his education on hold if the world's Twenty20 leagues come calling this winter.

Brown, 20, belied the fact he was the youngest player appearing at finals day to bamboozle opposing batsmen with his deceptive arts as Worcestershire — 33-1 outsiders at the start of the tournament — were deservedly crowned Vitality Blast champions on Saturday night.

In the 16 seasons of the competition only Alfonso Thomas, with 33 in 2010, has taken more wickets than Brown's 31 this year. His captain Moeen Ali had no hesitation in dubbing him 'international standard' after Sussex were defeated by five wickets at Edgbaston.

'I think I'll tell them I might not be there for a few lectures,' the City of Worcester University undergraduate said, of the prospect of an overseas franchise deal.

'It's a real good platform to get noticed and hopefully I have.'

The beauty of Brown's art is its simplicity. He insists his variations number just two — a knuckle ball and a reduced pace off-cutter — although a slippery bouncer means batsmen cannot take liberties.

'One of the things I've tried to do is let someone whack me before I change what i do. There's no point me tryng to bowl five different deliveries an over because not many people in the world can do that and execute all five,' he added.

'Gut feel has worked well for me this year. I've bowled the right ball at the right time. In 17 games I've not had a single dropped catch off my bowling, and so I have counted my lucky stars.'

In the absence of overseas batters Callum Ferguson and Martin Guptill, the Rapids' finals-day runs came in the form of a pair of 41s from Moeen and two man-of-the-match innings from Ben Cox.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
