Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen reportedly went through a mental-health check at a Minneapolis-area hospital on Monday after mysteriously missing Sunday's home loss to the Buffalo Bills and allegedly threatening to shoot hotel staffers on Saturday night.
Griffen had been ruled out of Sunday's game because of knee trouble, but when asked why the 30-year-old was inexplicably absent from the sideline, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer told reporters that he was dealing with a 'personal matter.'
KSTP-TV's 5 Eyewitness News cited sources saying that Griffen threatened to shoot someone at the hotel on Saturday. The Minneapolis Police Department report detailed the incident, with the name of the person making the threat redacted.
KSTP, citing the police report, indicated that Hotel Ivy staffers moved to the back of the office as a man paced in the lobby. Police audio indicated that the man said he would shoot someone if he wasn't let into his room.
A caller to police also reported the man threatened to assault hotel employees. No arrests were made.
The Vikings denied a report that Griffen was arrested trying to break into a teammate's home.
According to NFL Network, questions about Griffen's mental health arose even before the last weekend.
It's common for NFL teams to stay in hotels the night before a home game. However, as a Vikings spokesman told the Daily Mail, 'We do not stay there.'

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman issued a statement that read, 'We are aware of the situation involving Everson Griffen and certainly concerned by what we have heard. We are currently focused on Everson's well-being and providing the appropriate support for him and his family.'
The Vikings did not practice on Monday because they have a short week ahead of Thursday's game against the Rams in Los Angeles. Griffen was listed as DNP (did not participate) on the simulated practice report because of a 'knee/non-football injury.'
Since debuting in 2010, Griffen has been arrested twice. The first came in January of 2011, when he was arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of public intoxication. Days later he was arrested again for allegedly assaulting a police officer during a traffic stop.
Police spokeswoman Karen Rayner told City News Service at the time that Griffen was 'uncooperative and tried to run from officers,' who used a taser on the former USC star.
Griffen is in his ninth season with the Vikings, who made him a fourth-round draft pick in 2010 out of Southern California. In 123 games, including 65 starts, he has 62 sacks, one interception and 10 forced fumbles. He logged a career-high 13 sacks last year

'We're going to have a big family.'
Griffen also said he would wait before introducing his sons to football.
'I will allow them to play but they won't play until their freshman year in high school,' he said. 'I'm going to hold them back and let them play baseball, soccer and basketball. I didn't start playing tackle until freshman year in high school.
'The brain is a sensitive area. I want less contact as possible.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
