Viewers are already gripped by new ITV series Strangers after last night's action-packed first episode ended on a 'cracking' cliffhanger.
The drama, from the brothers behind hit BBC series The Missing, centres around British Professor Jonah Mulray, whose life is turned upside down when his wife, Megan Harris, is killed in an apparent car crash in Hong Kong.
The first episode saw Professor Mulray, played by John Simm, arrive to identify her body, only to discover Megan had been living a double life in the city with a husband of 20 years and their daughter.
Already reeling from the twists and turns of the storyline, viewers were dealt another blow in the final moments of the episode when Professor Mulray listened to a voicemail his wife had left him at the time of her death.
The short recording captured a gun shot ringing out - planting the suspicion that she had not died in a car crash, as it was thought, but had been murdered.
The cliffhanger led viewers to take to Twitter to praise the series, saying they were already totally 'gripped'.

Viewers took to Twitter to share their praise for the ITV drama which they said the twists and turns had them 'hooked' and that they couldn't wait for the next episode
One gushed: 'The ending of #strangers episode one is a great #cliffhanger haven't been hooked like this in a long time @ITV.'
Another tweeted: 'With more twists than my local shopping centre car park #strangers has to be one of the best dramas for a very long time.'
A third tried to piece together the events, guessing: 'The first husband shot her.'
While one who hadn't been convinced by the gripping drama said: 'The gunshot at the end of the phone message saved the whole episode for me.'
Viewers learnt Megan split her time between London and Hong Kong, spending six months of the year in each.
Despite being with her for five years, Professor Mulray had never visited the city as his small, sheltered life and fear of flying kept him in the UK.
Viewers learnt Megan split her time between London and Hong Kong, spending six months of the year in each. The episode opened with Meghan in the car, pictured. She was told by a construction worker to turn around as the road was closed - shortly before her car crash
In tears after leaving an emotional voicemail for her husband in London, Megan reversed and placed herself in the path of a oncoming speeding lorry in the dramatic opening scenes. It was revealed at the end of the episode that the voicemail captured crucial information
Her car flipped at the beginning of the programme and it appeared to viewers that she had succumbed to her injuries. However it was later revealed that she had been shot
But on receiving the news his wife had died, Professor Mulray had no choice but to board a plane to identify her body.
At a police station Professor Mulray came face-to-face with his wife's first husband David Chen, played by Anthony Wong, to whom she had been married for 20 years and with whom she shared a teenage daughter.
Professor Mulray was devastated at the revelation but David remained calm, leading some viewers to immediately become suspicious of him.
The drama continued when Professor Mulray was punched by a mystery man who had broken into his hotel room to steal his passport and laptop.
The thief was later revealed to be an accomplice of another nefarious character who was responsible for placing Meghan in harm's way moments before the car crash at the start of the episode.

David showed pictures of him with Megan on his phone to a gobsmacked Jonas who struggled to understand how his wife had been leading a double life without his knowledge
Viewers were gripped by the first episode and tried to piece together the events, with one guessing that it was the first husband who was responsible for Megan's death
Professor Mulray knew his wife had left him a voicemail shortly before her death and spent the episode searching for a mobile phone charger so that he could listen to it.
In a cryptic message, Megan apologises for keeping secrets, saying: 'I don't have much time… I don't know where to start. I am sorry for what you are going to find out, there is no easy way to break the truth.
As the events surrounding Megan's death began to unfold it was clear there was more to it as Faraz Reza (right) was seen breaking into Jonas' hotel room to steal his passport and laptop - he was also the same man from the beginning of the programme
The cast of Strangers includes (l-r) Emilia Fox as Sally Porter, John Simm as Jonah Mulray, Anthony Wong as David Chen, Dervla Kirwan as Megan Harris and Katie Leung as Lau Chen
'Please believe me Jonah the last thing I wanted to do was to hurt you. Meet her and you will understand. I've got myself into something, the way things are I am not sure I will see you again.
'I wish things had been different, that we could have had more time… That you came here, could have seen her and seen how beautiful it is. The sunset over Bodega Bay… I have to go I'm sorry, look I love you…'
The recording ends with the sound of Megan's dying breaths, the cacophony of the car crash - and the ringing of a gunshot that suggests all is not as it seems.
Strangers continues next Monday on ITV at 9pm

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
