«Breaking News» Tanorexic who had a sunbed in her room now has skin cancer

A former beauty queen has revealed how she was diagnosed with skin cancer after spending years as a 'tanorexic'. 

Beverley Dodds, 55, of Merseyside, was so obsessed with achieving the 'perfect' bronzed complexion in the 1980s and 1990s that she had a sunbed installed in her bedroom and would slather herself in Coca-Cola and baby oil in a bid to enhance the effects.

'I sunbathed as well, I was a bit of a tanorexic,' she told Mirror Online. 'I had a perma tan, like a dark, teak colour which isn’t really a good look actually.'

In 1996 Beverley was diagnosed with skin cancer and the myriad of treatments she has undergone has left her legs heavily scarred and covered in painful sores, pictured

But in 1996 Beverley, then in her early 30s, was diagnosed with Bowen’s disease, an early form of skin cancer. 

In the years since she has endured regular courses of invasive, painful treatment which have left her with 'agonising' welts and sores on her legs. Beverley has also been told she has the skin of an 85-year-old.

Now she is speaking out in the hope of warning other women against the dangers of tanning and urged them to stay covered up in the sun. 

Beverley, who lives Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, with her partner Russell Hipkiss, recalled how she once modelled for a sunbed company and was offered a free one to take home in exchange for her services.

The former Miss Merseyside beauty queen admitted she did not understand the dangers of the device and would regularly use it at the family home on The Wirral. 

She said: 'I used to wear olive oil and vinegar or baby oil and coca-cola. Or we’d wear factor 2.'  

However Beverley said she now wishes she had understood the dangers and had taken better care of her skin. 

In the 22 years since her skin cancer diagnosis, Beverley has tried a range of treatments to keep the disease at bay and stop it from spreading.

Beverley is currently undergoing photodynamic therapy which uses light sources with a light-sensitive drug to destroy cancer cells but has left her feet covered with blisters, pictured

She explained one of the side-effects is that she has been left with painful blisters that make her feel 'unattractive'.

Beverley added: 'If I hadn’t gone on the sunbeds, I’d have had perfect skin and this wouldn’t have happened. I never thought I’d get skin cancer, it never entered my mind.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
