It is not just needles which have been found embedded in Australian fruit - a nail has now been discovered implanted inside an apple.
A South Australian mother was horrified when she uncovered the rusty nail as she prepared lunch for her son.
Hayley Bland, from Murray Bridge, south-east of Adelaide, said she had purchased the pre-packaged Pink Lady apples from a Woolworths store on Sunday.
'The second apple I picked up, I noticed something hard on my fingers, and as I turned the apple around I noticed the nail,' Ms Bland told Seven News.
'That could've easily been swallowed with him taking a bite of the apple.'
Ms Bland said she has contacted police following the disturbing find.
The South Australian produce market has announced it will install X-ray machines to scan fruit for metal objects before they are distributed to market.
Consumers are being warned to cut and wash fruit before eating and South Australian Produce Market's Angelo Demasi also urged shoppers to 'be vigilant at retail level because we think that this dog act is done at retail level'.

A woman was peeling freshly bought apples for her daughters to enjoy when she made the horrifying discovery, firstly believing it to be the stem of the fruit.
Seven News reported it was a Pink Lady Apple from inside a pre-packed container at the Woolworths in the The Ponds, in Sydney's north-west.
The woman, named only as Carmello, told Seven News she was stunned.
'I just thought wow this can't possibly be happening,' she said.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
