«Breaking News» Netflix shares soar by five per cent after impressive Emmy haul of 23 awards

Netflix shares soared by almost five per cent after the video-streaming service brought home no fewer than 23 Emmy Awards on Monday.

The Crown won five Emmy's, with Claire Foy taking home the prestigious award for best actress in a drama series for her portrayal of a young Queen Elizabeth II.

The streaming leader also won big in the limited series categories, with Regina King winning Outstanding Lead Actress for her role in Seven Seconds. Merritt Wever and Jeff Daniels won Outstanding Supporting Actress and Actor in the same category for Godless. 

And once again, Black Mirror was a winner, taking the Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Limited Series.

The impressive haul pushed Netflix's share prices by almost five per cent to $367.65 at the close of day on Tuesday. 

'This was a solid accomplishment, and you can't take that away from them,' Michael Pachter, of Wedbush Securities, told Mercury News. 'In a way, they are ahead of where they need to be.'

Netflix stock has risen by almost 80 per cent in 2018 but has struggled over the past couple of months with less impressive second-quarter results.  

Since its 52-week high in mid-July, Netflix shares have slumped nearly 18 per cent.

But Tuesday's performance has helped boost the company's shares. 

Netflix was tied for Emmy wins with HBO - proving there is still a place for traditional TV in 2018. Westworld, Barry and Game of Thrones were HBO's big winners of the night 

Game of Thrones also took the coveted Outstanding Drama Series.

Despite its big investment in comedy, Netflix lost out in that category, with just John Mulaney winning Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special for Kid Gorgeous. 

It's two hopefuls for best comedy series, GLOW and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt were pipped to the post Amazon's new comedy, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
