«Breaking News» Manchester United arrive back in Wilmslow as Carrick heaps praise on Smalling

Manchester United have arrived back in the north west after getting back to winning ways against Watford, and coach Michael Carrick has heaped praise on man-of-the-moment Chris Smalling.

Smalling hit what turned out to be the winning goal for United, as they downed high-flying Watford on their own turf.

Carrick was particularly pleased with Smalling's effort, citing it as a textbook example of work taken straight from the training ground.

It was a goal uncharacteristic of a centre back, as Smalling took the ball on his chest before pivoting and rifling a volley into the back of the net.

Carrick was quick to praise the ability of the team to convert a set-piece into a goal scoring opportunity.

Speaking to the club website following the match, the former United star singled out Smalling for praise.

'It was a great goal from Chris. It's something we've been trying to do, really - score more goals from set plays and create more chances and try and come up with things to do that.

'So it was nice to see one go in from him today. Normally it's a header or a right foot, but it was a lovely volley on the left.

'It's something that you do. You're always trying to come up with little things [like] set plays.

'There's a lot of work that goes on during the week to try and put it into practice, so especially when it's a goal - that feeling when a goal goes in is extra special and satisfying, in a way.

'But there's plenty of things throughout the game that you see, and you try and take bits from, that have been on the training ground over recent weeks, and that's pleasing to see.'

The Red Devils were pictured later on Saturday touching back down at Wilmslow train station.

Paul Pogba, Jessie Lingard and a host of the stars appeared to be in good spirits following the crucial win, which eases the growing pressure surrounding the club.

United return to action on Wednesday, when they face BSC Young Boys in the first group game of this season's Champions League campaign.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
