«Breaking News» Leigh Griffiths vows to win over Scotland boss Alex McLeish

Leigh Griffiths has vowed to win over Alex McLeish - after news of Steven Naismith's likely selection in Israel came as a kick in the teeth to the Celtic striker.

Hot on the heels of extending his scoring streak to eight goals in nine matches against Albania, McLeish told the Hearts striker he was all but assured of a starting place in the next Nations League match in Haifa on October 11.

Griffiths was replaced by Naismith midway through the 4-0 defeat by Belgium at Hampden and had to wait until the 70th minute to feature against Albania as a replacement for Johnny Russell.

Expressing his surprise that McLeish had made no secret of the fact he was already leaning towards Naismith as the man to start in Israel, Griffiths, says he's determined to make the Scotland boss the latest in a long line of managers he's proved to be wrong.

'I was a bit surprised to see he (McLeish) has already selected him for the next game,' Griffiths said. 'But that's his choice. If he wants to make that call, it's fine.

'I'll be working harder at my club to prove him wrong, and to try to get in the side.

'You just need to take these things on the chin. I've had setbacks with Scotland before, this was another one.

'I'll just go away and work even harder to make sure I am on top form the next time the internationals come around.

'I have been doubted my whole life - but I keep shooting people down. It seems every season I have to prove people wrong.

'I do my talking on the pitch, that means doing well for Celtic and putting the ball in the back of the net.'

Asked specifically about McLeish's comments on Naismith - 'It will be hard to say that I'm not playing him now' - Griffiths, 28, added: 'It's a kick in the teeth. Not just for me but for all the strikers.

'It's an incentive to work hard at our clubs and try to change his mind.'

Griffiths, who signed an extended deal at Celtic until 2022 on Friday, admitted he didn't perform to his full capacity against Belgium but felt the four goals he's scored to date in dark blue merited him another start.

'I wouldn't say I did enough, not against Belgium anyway,' he conceded.

'It was always going to be hard against that class of opponent. I was surprised as well (not to start). These things happen. Naisy came in and did really well. He scored, ran about, and did his job.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
