Australia's constantly changing weather has led one of the nation's top botanist to believe there are five seasons.
Dr Tim Entwisle, director of Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens, believes Spring needs to be split into two different seasons.
Visitors at the Royal Botanic Gardens would frequently comment on plants flowering in Winter, calling it an 'early Spring'.
Speaking to ABC's Gardening Australia, Dr Entwisle says Australia needs a 'Sprinter and Sprummer' to bridge the gaps.
Dr Entwisle argues there is an 'early Spring' connecting Winter and Spring called 'Sprinter', which runs through August and September.
He says 'Sprinter' is the time when Australian bushland and gardens begin flowering, and is more accurate than just the start of regular Spring.
This is what spurred him on in his research of the seasons, as he says he would frequently hear people say they're experiencing an 'early Spring' in the Botanic Gardens.
'Biologically, it's a Spring coming out of Winter that's really noticeable when people say 'it's an early Spring.'
'We're in September, and we've already had a month of Spring,' he said.

He believes Australia's climate, with weather quickly changing from rain to shine, needs to be accounted for
He also believes in a season he calls 'Sprummer', which starts in October and November, and then a long Summer.
Dr Entwisle says Summer should last four months, and the other four seasons last two months apiece.
In his book titled 'Sprinter and Sprummer: Australia's Changing Seasons', he says Australia needs to drop the European model 'adopted without really thinking about it'.
'Living in Sydney, London and now Melbourne, I'm convinced that the four traditional seasons don't make sense in Australia,' he wrote.
'My proposal is that we instead have five seasons based on the climatic and biological cycles we observe around us.'

Climate change also plays a massive role in his beliefs, he says, writing the Australian climate is already volatile enough as it is.
'Climate change will have an impact on seasons but we should get our seasons lined up with the country we live in,' he told The Age.
'We already see spring coming earlier and with climate change we might see further changes.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
