«Breaking News» Julie Chen is leaving The Talk after CBS fired Les Moonves

Julie Chen will be leaving The Talk.

The longtime moderator announced the news at the end of the show's episode on Tuesday in a taped message, fighting back tears as she shared her decision with viewers.

Chen had not yet appeared on the show's ninth season, and announced that she would be going on indefinite leave last Monday after CBS forced her husband to resign as CEO and chairman.

Ten days later she made the leave definite, stating: 'I have been at The Talk since the day it started nine years ago and the cast, crew and staff have become family over the years.

'Right now I need to spend more time at home with my husband and our young son. So I have decided to leave The Talk.'

CBS applauded the hosts in the wake of the announcement on Tuesday.

'For eight seasons, Julie Chen has co-hosted The Talk with incredible energy, grace and professionalism. Her talents played a big role in our successful launch of CBS’ first network daytime talk show, and in the series growth into an Emmy Award-winning broadcast,' read the statement.

'All of us here have tremendous appreciation for the dedication and passion she brought to the show every day and for her generous role as an ambassador for CBS Daytime. We are grateful for her many other contributions, respect her decision and wish Julie all the best in everything she does.'

Chen then spent a majority of her speech thanking I want to thank everyone at the show for their wonderful years together. an the viewers.

'I will always cherish the memories we shared,' said Chen.

'Most important, I want to thank you the viewers for allowing me into your home every day. It was a privilege that I will forever be grateful for.'

She then thanked the crew and her co-hosts.

'To everyone behind the scenes, I send you my love and I will miss you all very, very much,' said Chen.

'To Eve, you are the newest one at the table but I feel like I have known you forever. You are even more beautiful on the inside than on the outside if that is possible, because you know I think you are flawless.

'Sheryl, thank you for being perfect go-to partner for the last seven years. I open, you close and you always bring down the house. We call ourselves the book ends, and we always laughed when we said it. Your wit and timing and humor and compassion and intelligence is simply unparalleled. You are incredible.

'Carrie Ann, I don't know but in my opinion you look awful good sitting in that chair, my Asian sister. Just saying.

'To Sara and Sharon we have been together since day one at the "The talk." I spent every day with you both. I will always treasure our friendship, great parenting advice from both and memories and laughs and private jokes that the three of us have shared. We are the original three  musketeers. I love you all and I know this show and sisterhood it stands for will live on for many more years.'

She then closed by stating: 'You ladies got this and I cannot be more proud to call you my friends. I love you.'

Sheryl Underwood and Carrie Ann Inaba were both left in tears after hearing Chen speak, while Sara Gilbert - who created the show - signed off for the ladies.

'First of all, thank you, Julie for the kind words. I created this show as a place for friends to come together and I know I speak for all hosts when I say we thank you for eight years of dear friendship and all that you did to contribute to the success of this show,' said Gilbert.

'We love you Julie and to all of you, thank you and we will see you tomorrow.'

It is unclear what this means for Chen's future at the network, where she also hosts the popular reality show Big Brother.

The season finale of that program airs next week, and multiple sources have told DailyMail.com that it is unlikely she will stay on as host of that show in light of her decision to leave The Talk.

Chen returned to Big Bother last Thursday, and defiantly signed off at the end of the program as 'Julie Chen Moonves'

Chen's exit from The Talk is not all bad news for the program, where the #MeToo and Time's Up movements are frequent topics of discussion these days.

That would have inevitably been a difficult subject to broach in a candid and honest manner should Chen have remained on the program.

As an example, Moonves was in the process of finding one of his accusers a job at CBS prior to his termination.

The New York Times reported that Moonves admitted this while being interviewed by company lawyers as part of the investigation into his alleged sexual misconduct just last month.

The CBS board realized after learning this that they needed to remove Moonves from his position according to emails that were seen by the Times, but were still prepared to let him leave with half of his $180 million severance package.

A deal was put in place that would pay Moonves out the rest of the money if an investigation cleared him, and a new release announcing the decision was being drafted when The New Yorker called to fact check a story that contained on-the-record allegations from six new women.

The board realized at that time there was no way to let Moonves leave with any money until the investigation was complete, and voted to terminate his employment on Sunday, just hours after The New Yorker published its story.

Some had hoped that vote could have come before the release of the story, but there was not enough time.

A filing submitted by CBS to the United States Securities and Exchange Committee obtained by DailyMail.com last week revealed that Moonves would be staying on for two years to help advise the company in order to ensure a smooth transition.

That filing also revealed that in his position Moonves would be given his own office and a security detail, paid for by CBS.

CBS will also place $120 million into a grantor trust that will be given to Moonves pending the outcome of two investigations into these allegations.

And the $20 million that Moonves was said to be donating to various #MeToo charities is actually coming out of the pocket of CBS Corporation.

'Mr. Moonves has agreed to perform transition advisory services for the Company for one year following his resignation (or, if earlier, until the date the Board determines the Company is entitled to terminate his employment for cause) in order to provide for a smooth transition of his duties,' reads the filing.

'In order to facilitate such transition services, the Company will provide Mr. Moonves with office services and security services for up to two years following his resignation.'

The filing also goes over Moonves' compensation package, though does not get into great detail regarding how it might be impacted by the investigations other than to note if he is cleared he will receive the full amount due to him under his contract.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
