«Breaking News» Don Jr: #MAGA crowd will 'break history' for his father in midterms

Donald Trump Jr. is predicting his father can break electoral history and keep Congress from flipping parties in the November election, if his 'Make America Great Again' supporters will come out this fall.

'Our people, the MAGA people, they have to turn out. They have to get out and vote. And I think we can break history,' he told ABC News in an interview that aired Tuesday on 'Good Morning America.'

Trump Jr. was addressing the historical trend that shows the president's party often loses control of Capitol Hill in the midterm contest following the president's election. Independent political prognosticators have given Democrats strong chances of retaking control of the House of the Representatives this November.

President Donald Trump's son had a positive spin on that possibility, saying if that happens, it'll be because people are so happy with his father's presidency they won't bother to get out and vote.

'I think historically speaking, that would be what happens,' Trump Jr. said. 'You know, people get complacent. Our side is getting all the things that they're wanting to because my father's delivering on all of the promises that he made. But that's what they've said, and that's what's historical.'

He noted Democrats will likely try to impeach his father if they win control of the House and said it will be the fault of Republican voters who didn't come out and vote.

Trump Jr. spoke to ABC News about many of the topics plaguing his father's White House.

Several administration officials have taken to the television screens to counter the images of chaos that have come in the wake of the anonymously written op-ed in the New York Times that revealed a 'resistance' movement in the White House and excerpts from Bob Woodward's book 'Fear.'

Vice President Mike Pence took to the public morning affairs shows on Sunday and press secretary Sarah Sanders appeared on the morning shows last week in addition to Trump Jr.'s interview.

Trump Jr. had strong words from the 'senior administration official in the Trump administration' who wrote the essay in The Times that was published last week.

He says the intrigue from that and Woodward's book has given his father fewer people to trust, making it harder to get things done.

'I think there are people in there that he can trust, it's just - it's a much smaller group than I would like it to be,' he said.

'It would be easier to get things done if you're able to fully trust everyone around you,' he added. 'I think that's a shame.'

He slammed the anonymous writer of The Times essay as 'sad' and 'disgusting.'

And he's calling on the Justice Department to investigate who penned the piece , saying the author, who described actions by staff to thwart President Trump's agenda in an effort to rein in his 'more misguided impulses,' is subverting the will of the American people, who elected his father.

'It's pretty disgusting. That's pretty sad. Perhaps it's a disgruntled person thrown out,' he said of the author.

'This is very low level person who will throw their name on an op-ed, and basically subvert the vote of the American people who elected my father to do this job,' Trump Jr. said.

'Listen, I think you're subverting the will of the people. I mean, to try to control the presidency while not the president. You have millions and millions of Americans who voted for this,' he added.

Trump Jr., who is part of special counsel Robert Mueller's probe of Russia's meddling in the 2016 presidential election, said he's not worried about his potential legal exposure.

'I'm not because I know what I did and I'm not worried about it,' Trump Jr. said.

He again denied that he spoke to his father about his June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer promising dirt on Hillary Clinton, saying that he 'testified to that ad nauseum.'

'That doesn't mean they won't try to do something,' he said of investigators, saying he would 'deal with it as it comes.'

Trump Jr. acknowledged the investigation has been difficult for him personally.

'It's obviously been very rough,' he said. 'For a time, this has been very difficult.'

'At the same time, I think I'm able to compartmentalize it,' he added. 'And in the end I know what I've done, and I'm not worried about that at all, because you know, I've done nothing that anyone else wouldn't do in that position, in my opinion.'

In August, President Trump denied he's concerned about the infamous Trump Tower meeting, claiming it was 'totally legal and done all the time in politics' and confirming it was held to get campaign dirt on Clinton.

That contradicts the original explanation about the June 2016 meeting - held during the heart of presidential campaign - that it was about American adoptions of Russian children.

President Trump tweeted that the June 2016 Trump Tower gathering attended by Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and then-campaign manager Paul Manafort 'was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics - and it went nowhere.'

Explanations for the Trump Tower meeting, which has become a focal point of Mueller's investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 election, have varied and the president's tweet seems to have offered yet another one.

It will inevitably lead to more questions about what the president knew and when he knew it. And why the original statement from Donald Trump Jr about the meeting said it was about Russian adoptions.

The president's son has become a popular figure on the campaign trail and a strong fundraiser for the party.

Despite his enthusiasm for politics, Trump Jr. said he hasn't thought of running for office himself.

'I think the most important thing right now is making sure that, you know, again, I get out there, fight for the House, fight for the Senate, make sure that people get that, you know, Donald Trump and the successful policies that he has enacted, that the policies that are making America win right now, they're on the ticket in 2018.'

He also slammed former President Barack Obama, who recently criticized President Trump taking credit for a strong economy.

Trump Jr. said Obama's comments were 'literally the most asinine thing that I've ever heard.'

Obama launched a scathing attack on his successor's presidency on Friday, including a hit at the president's claiming the credit for the strong economy.

Obama pointed out the economy was on the upswing when he left office.

'By the time I left office, household income was near its all-time high, and the uninsured rate hit an all-time low, poverty rates were falling. I mention this just so when you hear how great the economy is doing right now, let's just remember when this recovery started,' he said.

'I'm glad it's continued, but when you hear about this economic miracle that's been going on, when the job numbers come out, monthly job numbers and suddenly Republicans are saying it's a miracle, I have to kind of remind them, actually, those job numbers are the same as they were in 2015 and 2016,' he added.

President Trump slapped back at Obama via Twitter too.

''President Trump would need a magic wand to get to 4% GDP,' stated President Obama. I guess I have a magic wand, 4.2%, and we will do MUCH better than this! We have just begun,' he wrote.

Trump was likely referring to a comment Obama made in June 2016, during the presidential campaign, when he talked of then-candidate Trump's promise to bring jobs back to the United States.

'Well, how exactly are you going to do that? What exactly are you going to do? There's no answer to it,' Obama said.

'He just says, 'Well, I'm going to negotiate a better deal.' Well, what, how exactly are you going to negotiate that? What magic wand do you have? And usually the answer is, he doesn't have an answer,' Obama said at the time.

The results-orientated Trump often touts strong economic numbers as proof his presidency is delivering on its promises.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
