A suspected drunk driver has been arrested on murder charges after police say he intentionally ran over and killed a father-of-seven who had warned him to slow down.

Relatives of 40-year-old Victor Herrera say all of his children - ranging in age from one to 19 - witnessed as their father was mowed over in Long Beach, California, on Saturday night.

The driver fled the scene but was later located by police, who have identified him as 29-year-old Long Beach resident Sokhorn Hor.

Herrera and his 12-year-old daughter were walking home from the store at around 11pm when a motorist sped past them on a crosswalk at an intersection.

'I guess the guy was coming really fast,' Herrera's nephew Daniel Escobar told KTLA

'Victor was like: "Hey man, what's going on?"'

The driver of the red sedan can be seen on surveillance footage pulling into a parking lot and confronting Herrera.

Herrera told his daughter to run home to get help, and minutes later a group of family members runs around the corner to the parking lot.

Escobar said the group watched as the driver pulled out of the lot and struck Herrera before fleeing the scene.

Police located Hor shortly after the crash, but when they tried to pull him over he tried to flee again and crashed into a parked car.

The 29-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held on $2million bail. He is expected to be arraigned Tuesday.

The community held a vigil for the slain father-of-seven on Monday near the scene of the crash.

'He died protecting his family, at all costs,' one woman at the vigil said.

Herrera, who is survived by his children, wife and five-year-old granddaughter, has been remembered as a family man who was always the life of the party and great at giving advice.

'He loved everybody,' the victim's mother, Dolores Herrera, told KTLA. 'My heart is aching for him. He was my baby.'

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help Herrera's heartbroken family cover his funeral costs.

'The world lost one of the funniest, most loving people that could ever walk this Earth,' the fundraising page says.

'We love you Victor. Your love will live on because you shared it with so many of us.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
