He landed the gig of his life on Monday night, as he stepped into the spotlight to host the Emmys.

But with viewing figures revealing the show pulled in it's smallest audience in its history, Colin Jost cleared his head with a quick dip in the ocean.

Stripping off to his wetsuit, he dove into the bracing clear blue waters in The Hamptons on Thursday.

Standing on his board, the Saturday Night Live star showed his skills, beforecoming off his board.

Jost jetted back to his home in New York with his girlfriend of more than a year, Scarlett Johansson, following his appearance on Monday's show in Los Angeles. 

The final numbers from Nielsen show the annual awards ceremony saw a sharp decline in viewers and a dip in its targeted demographic.

A little over 10million people tuned in to the three-hour Monday night show, an 11 per cent drop from last year's 11.8million viewers.

Deadline reports that this year's 10.2million viewers makes it the show's lowest viewership in history.

The ceremony, co-hosted by his SNL colleague Michael Che, also saw a 2.4 rating among adults 18-49. Last year, it had a 2.5 rating among that same demographic.

The 70th Primetime Emmys were the first time since 2014 that it aired on NBC. The show aired on Monday instead of Sunday this year so it didn't interfere with the network's Sunday Night Football lineup, but it still competed with ESPN's Monday Night Football. 

The Emmy's decline in viewers, however, wasn't as bad as the dips the Oscars and the Grammys saw this year.

The show did have some notable moments including the cast of The Game of Thrones reclaiming the best drama award 

Despite its failed efforts to draw in a crowd, the Emmys had some buzzworthy moments including when director Glenn Weiss stunned the crowd and his girlfriend, Jan Svendsen, by getting down on one knee and proposing to her after accepting the award for outstanding director for a variety special.

'Jan, you are the sunshine in my life,' he said. 'And mom was right, don't ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don't like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife.'

Svendsen shouted 'yes' from the audience before making her way to the stage to accept the ring.

Other notable moments included the cast of Game Of Thrones reclaiming the best drama award, after sitting out last year's ceremony.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
