Thor actor Chris Hemsworth, 35, and his wife Elsa Pataky, 42, began construction of their mega-mansion in Byron Bay, New South Wales late last year.
And as the building nears completion, neighbours may be left wondering whether the Hollywood couple had planned to build a fortress rather than an idyllic coastal abode.
In extraordinary photos obtained by Daily Mail Australia, the structure appears to resemble a military stronghold or brutalist shopping mall thanks to its rectangular shape and monolithic, concrete platforms.

Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky's Byron Bay fortress: Extraordinary photos reveal the Hollywood couple's $8million newly-developed family home secluded in picturesque beachside hills
The development's towering walls and sheltered location also contribute to its overall bunker-like aesthetic.
The building itself boasts enough space to accommodate every luxury the Hemsworth-Pataky family would desire, including an enormous infinity pool that appears to have already been constructed on the roof.
There will also be plenty of space for the couple's three children - twin sons Tristan and Sasha, and daughter India Rose - as well as their beloved pet pooches.

A large patch of vegetation next to the home has also been cleared, possibly to make way for a garage space.
It looks like the garrison-inspired dwelling requires some work before the family can move in, given the prevalence of extensive scaffolding and construction materials.
The new development is replacing Chris and Elsa's Balinese-style, eight-bedroom resort home, for which they paid approximately $7million in 2014.

The new, architecturally-designed estate is estimated to be costing the Avengers star over $8million to build.
It is expected to feature a gym, steam room, large swimming pool, luxury spa, media room and games room, as well as vast outdoor spaces and six bedrooms.
In 2016, the Gold Coast Bulletin first reported that Chris and Elsa were getting ready to splash out on the renovation of their Byron Bay estate.

A development application for alterations and additions to the property was lodged to Byron Shire Council on 2 November 2016, according to the publication.
Plans for the work outlined the demolition of the existing house and structures, and the building of a new swimming pool.
In its former state, the house - which was spread over 4.2 hectares - had eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
