The news was welcomed by his fellow Match of the Day star Gary Lineker, who retweeted the 'great news' to his own followers after what is likely to have been a horrible three months for the former Liverpool star.

Match of the Day commentator Steve Wilson added: 'Delighted Lawro. Can't begin to think what that must have been like for you. Draw a line.'

Lawrenson worked for the BBC on their World Cup coverage in Russia as a co-commentator, but has seen his role on Match of the Day significantly reduced in recent years with more screen-time given to younger pundits such as Jermaine Jenas and Alan Shearer.

As well as a respected pundit, Lawernson is also a legendary figure at Liverpool and was an instrumental part of their dominance of English football throughout the 1980s.

The former defender, who played 356 games for Liverpool, won five league titles, three League Cups, a European Cup and an FA Cup in a glory-filled seven years at Anfield.

Lawrenson moved into media after a short stint as manager with Oxford United and Peterborough and became a household name in his own right on the Premier League highlights show alongside Alan Hansen and Lineker.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
