«Breaking Pic News» Luke Shaw 'honoured and privileged' at England call-up following impressive Manchester United form

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw said he was honoured to be back in the England squad.

The 23-year-old has impressed for Jose Mourinho's side this season, hitting the ground running with a goal against Leicester in the first game and keeping up that momentum.  

He told a press conference: 'Obviously I am very honoured and privileged for getting selected. I am just really looking forward to it.

Shaw believes he is improving as a player and has his confidence back after two tough years

'It's a really good vibe and place to be in coming off the World Cup. The first training session today was good and I'm looking forward to a good week away with England.'

Shaw admitted he had sympathy for United team-mate Ashley Young, whose place he has taken at club level and who was left out of the England squad.

Shaw added: 'During the World Cup, Ashley Young was really good and one of our key players for the way we played. Of course I feel sympathy him.

'There are a few other left backs in the league that are top left-backs. It's a tough decision for Gareth but it is a good thing for him to have these choices.'

Shaw has struggled for fitness and form over the past few seasons but after starting the campaign in impressive form for his club the 23-year-old is looking firmly to the future.

He said: 'Of course I've had an unfortunate two or three years. That's in the past, I'm just looking forward.

The left-back is hoping to be involved in the England team against Spain and Switzerland

'I'm feeling good and my confidence is back. I am focused on the future and improving myself as a player and a person.'

Shaw feels he has matured this season and has cut out 'some of the silly things' he was doing.

'On the nutrition side, I wouldn't say I made massive changes,' he said. 'I've cut out some of the silly things I was doing.

'I want to improve every day. Last season there weren't many chances but this season I managed to start the season off and play four games, which I haven't done for a long time.

'You could say I've maybe gone from a kid to a man now.'

Shaw added he is aiming to improve for both club and country.

He said: 'I'm still young, I'm 23. I've still got a lot to improve on. The dream for every player is to become the best in their position in the world, I'm striving to be the best.

'There's a lot of work still to be done but hopefully I'm heading in the right direction.'

Shaw also expects a tough game against Spain, who are England's next opponents.

He said: 'Spain have some of the best players in the world and we know it is going to be a very tough game.

'It's a really good time to be in the England squad and we've got a lot to look forward to, not just now but in the future as well.'

Asked about his approach to the mental side of the game following Danny Rose's disclosure during the World Cup that he had suffered with depression, Shaw revealed he had spoken to a psychologist.

He said: 'I've seen a psychologist over the last four years, especially after my leg break.'

Shaw had been criticised after dropping out of the United squad following his injury and poor form.

He added: 'I wanted to prove everybody wrong and get back to my best. I'm feeling the best ever, not just on the pitch but off it.'

Shaw came in for criticism from club manager Jose Mourinho during the past couple of seasons but the left-back believes it helped him improve as a player.

He added: 'Mentally it made me come out the other side stronger and make me want to prove to him I can do what sometimes in the last couple of seasons he said I couldn't. At this stage now I'm feeling really positive.

'I think at times he got frustrated with me because he knew I could do better and when I look back at times maybe he was right, but now I don't want to keep focusing on that.

'I had a chat with the manager before the season and he said he wanted me to stay and fight for my place and that motivated me a lot.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
