«Breaking News» Tottenham will play League Cup tie against Watford at Stadium MK after EFL give them dispensation

Tottenham received the green light on Thursday to play their third-round Carabao Cup game with Watford at Milton Keynes' Stadium MK.

Spurs approached the EFL before last week's draw to ask permission for them to play the match at a neutral venue should they be drawn at home.

With their new stadium not ready on time and Wembley already booked, Tottenham's only options were to find a neutral ground or reverse the tie.

A statement from the EFL confirmed the decision, reading: 'The EFL Board granted Tottenham dispensation to play their round three Carabao Cup tie against Watford Football Club later this month at Stadium MK.

'As a result of Wembley Stadium and the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium being unavailable during the week commencing 24 September, the club approached the EFL prior to last week's draw requesting the Board consider an application to play at a neutral venue in the event they were drawn at home.

'The rules of the Carabao Cup provide for the board of the EFL to consider the home club's request to play at neutral venues or to reverse the fixture.

'The decision to grant dispensation takes into account all relevant circumstances facing the home club at the time the fixture is scheduled to take place.'

The outcome will be welcome news to the Tottenham hierachy who have faced a litany of issues following the delay in opening their new stadium.

Watford on the other hand will disappointed with the result after they asked for the game to be played at Vicarage Road - where they beat Spurs 2-1 in the Premier League last weekend.

Tottenham will be required to fund the entire operation however, while Watford are guaranteed at least 10 per cent of the tickets.

'The Board fully considered Tottenham’s request alongside strong representations from Watford who formally asked the League to play the tie at Vicarage Road,' it continued.

'It was determined that as a result of Tottenham being drawn at home, the tie should be played at the venue of the Club’s request, on the proviso that the visitor’s will receive a ticket allocation of not less than 10% and Tottenham fund any venue hire costs.'

The club turned to a fan survey to help them decide where to play the match but many were unhappy with having to travel, although there were no venues available inside the M25.

It means that Mauricio Pochettino's side look set to play in three different venues term with all three Champions League group games being played at Wembley.

Spurs also announced on Monday that their Premier League game with Manchester City has been put back to October 29  and will be played 24 hours after an NFL clash at Wembley.

With ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
