«Breaking News» Rose and Woods among the big guns looking to spoil Schauffele's big day at the BMW Championship

Imagine leading at halfway at the BMW Championship in Pennsylvania when needing to win to have any chance of claiming the final wildcard for the Ryder Cup — and seeing Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler in your rear-view mirror.

One thing’s for certain: if gifted young American Xander Schauffele does hang on against that stellar group of pursuers, he will give US captain Jim Furyk an almighty headache before the announcement on Monday.

The man in the box seat for the last ticket to Paris remains the equally impressive Tony Finau, who matched his rival’s 64 on Friday to lie five off the lead and continue his wonderful form this season, including three top 10s in the four majors and two top-four finishes heading into this event.

But the 24-year-old leader, who finished tied runner-up at the Open in July, has certainly made things interesting after playing his first two rounds in a startlingly low 127.

As for the biggest names of all, Rose was the one who stood out as Tiger and Rory showed how difficult it is to follow up a low score with another. After their 62s on Thursday, came a 70 and 69.

Rose, who won at Aronomink in 2010, showed his liking for the storied venue once more with a marvellous 63 to be just two behind Schauffele. If the 38-year-old Englishman, who finished runner-up in Boston last week, were to win there is every chance he would become world No 1 for the first time.

McIlroy birdied two holes late on to stay in touch at four adrift and sounded relieved. ‘Let’s hope the bad round is out of the way,’ he said. ‘I didn’t hit as many fairways or hole as many putts.’

Woods played better than he scored. The driver, so erratic over the summer, is now a thing of beauty heading into the autumn but his approaches did not finish as close as day one. He is now five shots back in search of his 80th PGA Tour victory and the first of his stunning comeback year.

In Ryder Cup terms, the 66 from Alex Noren to be tied third with Fowler (65) will have pleased his captain Thomas Bjorn, as will the wonderful 62 from Tommy Fleetwood, to make amends for his opening 71.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
