Lawyers for the family of a slain black man gunned down by an off-duty white cop at his own apartment last Thursday expressed disgust toward Dallas police who they said are trying to 'smear' and 'incriminate' the victim.
Botham Jean, 26, was shot dead by officer Amber Guyger in his Dallas apartment around 10pm that night. Guyger claimed she entered the apartment upstairs from hers under the impression it was her own.
A search warrant was conducted at Jean's South Side Flats apartment the day after the deadly incident.
Police seized 10.4 grams of marijuana and a marijuana grinder during the search, an affidavit showed.
Ben Crump and Lee Merritt, family attorneys to slain black man Botham Jean, said police are trying to 'smear' and 'incriminate' the victim

Jean, 26, was shot dead by Officer Guyger in his apartment in south Dallas on Thursday night. Guyger said she entered the apartment thinking it was her own
Also seized, were two bullet casings, a police backpack, vest, laptop computer, two electronic keys, two packages of medical aid and a lunch box.
'They immediately began looking to smear him,' Merritt said in a statement seen on the Associated Press.
Family attorney Ben Crump also told Fox 4: 'This is nothing but a disgusting attempt to assassinate the character of a wonderful young man.
'It's the same old playbook... they assassinate the character after they assassinate the person. He didn't kill anybody. He was killed.'
Family attorney Lee Merritt added: 'I think it’s unfortunate that law enforcement begin to immediately criminalize the victim — in this case, someone who was clearly was the victim that has absolutely no bearing on the fact that he was shot in his home.
'I would love to see more information coming out about the warrants executed on the home of the shooter who lived just below him. I haven’t seen any of those.
'And particularly for it to be on this day the day that we remember and celebrate him... to see the common assassination attempt on the victim that we often see in law enforcement involved shootings.'
Writer and civil rights activist Shaun King confirmed in a Thursday statement that police did not conduct a search warrant on the white officer's home.
King said in a Twitter statement: 'Since authorities searched the apartment of murder victim & released the results I just asked them for the results of the warrant of Amber Guyger's home - since she was the perpetrator.
'Guess what they said? IT DOES NOT EXIST. They NEVER searched her home!'

Guyger has been charged with manslaughter. She was jailed Sunday but released that night after posting $300,000 bond.
The official autopsy for Jean, whose funeral was held Thursday, will determine the details into his killing.
Guyger claimed in her affidavit that Jean's door was already ajar when she entered and then she shot him dead after he ignored verbal commands.
Video obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com with the help of a neighbor living on the same floor shows that the doors in Jean and Guyger's apartment building are heavy metal fire doors that automatically slam shut if let go.
The video proves Guyger could not have used her key to force open Jean's door, which she previously claimed she did in her statement to Texas Rangers.
Heartbreaking first photos from inside the victim's apartment show leftover food and materials he had been reading when he was shot to death.

Inside Edition obtained footage from the South Side Flats apartment which shows a half-eaten cereal bowl Jean was eating from as well as The Autobiography of Gucci Mane he had been catching up on.
On a piece of furniture near the couch, a phone case, TV remote and two white sheets of paper are seen. On the couch, a large stack of pillows and blankets.
Over on the floor, one flip flop belonging Jean is lodged slightly underneath the living room cushion.
The family's attorney, Lee Merritt, told Inside Edition he visited the complex hoping to find answers to better understand a motive behind the slaying.
Merritt said, however, he 'didn't find anything that provided clarity.'
When the Dallas attorney was asked if he believed officer Amber Guyger knew her black upstairs neighbor whom she gunned down, he replied: 'Not in the sense that most people think... [not] like a past relationship.'

Botham Jean, 26, was shot dead by officer Amber...
It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
