«Breaking News» Family reveal IndyCar's Robert Wickens broke his neck, spinal cord and both legs in crash

IndyCar driver Robert Wickens fractured his spinal cord and neck, as well as seven other serious injuries, when he crashed at Pocono Raceway last month.

The Canadian driver also suffered fractures in his hands and the tibia and fibula bones in both legs after launching into a fence at the Pennsylvania track on August 19, his family revealed on Thursday.

He had surgeries this week at IU Health Methodist Hospital to repair fractures to both of his legs and hands and is expected to be moved to a rehabilitation center soon. It could be months before the severity of his spinal cord injury is known.

The Wickens family revealed the extent of his injuries through Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

'As unverified sources immediately following Robert's accident inaccurately and without permission portrayed his condition as less than severe, in an effort to remain transparent and open, we are providing a list of Robert's injuries to truly showcase the severity of what our son/brother/fiancé/friend/teammate has gone through and will be recovering from in the months to come,' the family said.

'We want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love, prayers and positive energy that has been sent our way since Robert's accident.'

Wickens' family added it was 'blown away' by the support of the IndyCar community.

Schmidt Peterson did not field Wickens' car in the race after his accident, but Carlos Munoz drove it at Portland last weekend and will close the season in the seat at Sonoma in California.

However, the team said the car will be Wickens' when he's able to return.

'The No. 6 entry is for Robert Wickens and him only,' the team said. 'No matter the amount of time it takes for his full recovery, we will hold that seat for him.

'The road to Robert's recovery will be a long and tough one, but we hope you'll be alongside us cheering him on.'

The statement listed the Wickens' injuries as follows: Thoracic spinal facture, spinal cord injury, neck fracture, tibia and fibula fractures to both legs, fractures in both hands, fractured right forearm, fractured elbow, four fractured ribs and a pulmonary contusion.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
