«Breaking News» Amazon plants fake packages to trap thieving delivery truck drivers

Amazon is planting fake packages in their delivery trucks to test the integrity of their drivers.

The online store has planted the dummy parcels at random in a ploy to catch delivery drivers that steal customer packages.

The thief-detecting strategy was ordered from Amazon's headquarters in Seattle as a response to overwhelming reports of package thefts over the past year.

'It's meant to be a trap...to check the integrity of the driver,' a former Amazon logistics manager told Business Insider.

Amazon's dummy packages are sent out with fake labels and are usually empty or filled with a small paperweight.

Drivers are supposed to scan every package in their truck. The labels on the fake packages are intentionally rigged to bring up an error message when scanned, leaving the driver three options.

By protocol the driver could call their supervisor for instruction or the driver could return the package to the Amazon warehouse at the end of their shift.

As the bait hasn't been detected or registered in Amazon's system, some workers might steal it.

'If you bring the package back, you are innocent. If you don't, you're a thug,' Sid Shah, who used to manage DeliverOL which delivers packages for Amazon said.

Tackling theft within Amazon is a top priority for the booming online store and the dummy tactic has proved successful.

'We caught people not being honest,' the former logistics manager said.

All retailers face the problem of shrinkage - losing goods attributable to theft, error, or fraud - and it's cost retailers nearly $47billion last year, according to the National Retail Federation.

In 2016, Bloomberg revealed that Amazon warehouse employees were shown videos that show former colleagues being caught stealing things, changing the addresses on packages, and some arrested, as a shocking warning against theft within the warehouses.

But theft - whether it's at the warehouse, delivery truck, or on a customer's front porch - is a problem for all online shoppers.

In 2017, it was reported that 31 per cent of online shoppers surveyed experienced package theft and 61 per cent of survey respondents believed online retailers were not doing enough to prevent package theft.

Speaking on the practice of planting fake packages, Amazon said to DailyMail.com: 'Checks and audits are part of overall quality programs and are administered at random.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
