«Breaking News» X Factor: HALF the contestants are axed as Simon, Ayda, Robbie and Louis learn who they're mentoring

The 2018 auditions drew to a close on The X Factor on Sunday night, leaving judges Simon Cowell, Ayda Field, Robbie Williams and Louis Tomlinson to decide which singers were strong enough to make it to the next round.

With the next stage in the show typically the Boot Camp round, this has been axed this year, with the judges instead culling the 130 acts down to just 60 in a tiny room with nothing but name cards and a tape of the auditions.

On Sunday's instalment - which saw drag act Lady Frieda Wilde, hunky Elliot Horne and emotional songstress Chloe Jane McAllister audition - half the acts were bid farewell, with the rest being split into their respective groups: the Boys, Girls, Groups and Overs.

They will go on to face the all-new Six Chair Challenge, which this year allows each of the judges one Guaranteed Safe Seat to give away.

If the judge likes an act enough, and they definitely want to see them at Judges' Houses, they’ll press a golden X and give that act a Safe Seat. The judge can only press this for an act in their own category.

This means the act cannot be swapped out of their chair and they’ll go straight through to judge’s houses.

All that was left on Sunday was for Robbie, Ayda, Louis and Simon to learn who they'll be mentoring this season; and they all got what they wanted.

Robbie will mentor the Groups, Ayda the Overs, Simon the Girls and Louis the Boys.

Robbie said: 'They’re mega excited, I think I might be more excited than them!'

Ayda excitedly gushed 'I have said from day one that I want the Overs' as Louis said, ‘I wanted the Boys, get in! The variety is important'.

It seems that comptition is already hotting up between the judges.

Robbie revealed: 'I’m very, very happy and I’ve got quite a bit of money with Louis Tomlinson, that he thinks his acts are going to get further than my acts. That’s not going to happen. Let’s win this thing.’

Equally ready to win, Ayda also reavealed her and Robbie have got a lot riding on this: 'I will never live it down with my husband if I do worse than him, I’m taking these guys to the championship.

'What the [other judges] don’t know is, I’m the most competitive human on that panel. We’ve got this.'

Of getting the Girls, Simon added: 'You’ve all got a shot here, this is probably the best Girls category we’ve had for a long, long time. Let’s make it amazing.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
