There is a 'bureaucratic coup' against President Donald Trump, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham is charging, and he thinks a special counsel should investigate it.
'There is a bureaucratic coup going on in the Department of Justice and FBI and someone needs to look at it,' Graham said on 'Fox News Sunday.'
Graham was responding to a sensational story that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein suggested last year that he should make covert audio recordings of President Trump in order to build a case for removing him from office, according to a New York Times report last week.
Sen. Lindsey Graham said there is a 'bureaucratic coup' against President Donald Trump
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein (right) reportedly talked with FBI officials about wearing a wire to secretly record President Donald Trump, in order to build a case for removing him from office
Rosenstein disputed that account on Friday, and a Justice Department official who was reportedly in the room when Rosenstein talked about using the 25th Amendment to end the Trump presidency says he was being sarcastic.
Graham said the deputy attorney general should not be fired.
'He shouldn't fire Rosenstein unless you believe Rosenstein was lying,' he said.
However, he said, 'We need a special counsel to look at this.'
He said the reports on Rosenstein confirm President Trump's suspicions there is a 'deep state' that was working to keep him from defeating Hillary Clinton and is now working against his presidency.
'Before the election, the people in question tried to taint the election, tip it to [Hillary] Clinton's favor. After the election, they're trying to undermine the president,' Graham said.
The 25th Amendment allows for a majority of the president's cabinet, or 'such other body as Congress may by law provide,' to decide if an Oval Office occupant is unable to carry out his duties – and then to put it to a full congressional vote.
President Trump has long said there is a deep state working against him
The 25th Amendment has never been used to remove a U.S. president, but it has been in the news with unprecedented regularity during the Trump administration.
Sixteen days ago the Times published an unsigned opinion essay from a purported senior administration official who claimed the Constitution's procedure for firing a president was discussed quietly in the first days of Trump's tenure.
'Given the instability many witnessed, there were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment, which would start a complex process for removing the president,' the author wrote. 'But no one wanted to precipitate a constitutional crisis.'
Trump's ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, dismissed any talk of the 25th amendment.
'I'm (at the White House) almost every other week and I can tell you never has anyone talked about the 25th Amendment, never has anyone even questioned the president's mental stability or anything,' she said on ABC's 'This Week' on Sunday morning.
She also said she's never been a part of any kind of decision to use it to remove Trump.
'I have never been part of it, I've never heard it,' she said. 'That's absurd.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
